A very simple question
Enclosed in the grey is the new, attached to the light. In my hand is the old, attached to the bike. This is my back right turn signal. These appear to be the pieces that plug together. Do I need to break off that grey cap in order to connect them, or am I totally off? Thank you.

It's hard to tell what's under the grey plastic, but one way or another you need to have connectors that mate, or you need to just solder the wires and use heat shrink over the joints.

I suggest sticking with connectors and not just splicing the wires together.
You'll need the male 2 pin HB .050 turn signal connector, third one down here. You'll need to crimp the terminals onto your bare wires, insert them into the connector housing, and then plug it in. It comes with two terminals, you may want to get some spares, they're small and not easy to crimp. You do need the male one, it refers to the terminals, not the housing. Edit: you'll need to cut those ends off the bike wires, don't know where they came from, but they're not stock.

I have never replaced the turn signals in the back, and in the front I used an aftermarket. This time I chose OEM with the understanding it would be plug and play. Should they not be able to connect without tampering?

They should, but the wires from the bike in your picture are not OEM, are you sure you have the right wires? If so, someone changed them. The OEM connector is the one I specified in my previous post.
