My bikes in Thailand
Hey folks,
I bought a 2000 250R in early January but then had to go work overseas for 6 weeks. (Thought it would be longer but political upheaval in Thailand looks like it'll cut short my current time here). I first came to north Thailand Oct 2011 and a few days later bought a 2003 BJ250TR enduro. They're only sold in Japan from what I understand but this one ended up in northern Thailand I bought it with about 1,000 miles on the clock for $1500. Thing is it couldn't be registered since it's not an available model here an was not properly imported. God knows how it ended up in Thailand but it was an awesome bike, very new and I had a blast with torquey old school 250 aircooled single. Never had any trouble with bike but impossible to get parts other than in Japan. That part was a hassle but great bike. Was done to look like Kawi 2 stroke dirt bikes from the early 70s. But after a 15 months of riding around Chiang Mai, local cops issued me a bunch of no-plate warnings but they were cool enough to 'lend' me a plate for a reasonable sum. Eventually, when I left, I sold it to a German girl was gonna ride home to Europe on it! Well, that English girl Lucky Lois has ridden round the world on a Yam XT200 so I guess it's possible but I wouldn't do it. By second time in Thailand, starting this past summer, I bought a seized Honda Phantom TA200 baby cruiser. They're made in Thailand so it was plated etc. I rebuilt the engine with an 240cc overbore kit from Honda Indonesia. It worked ok and it's a cool little bike but can barely turn, especially with somebody on the back. Comfy for about town but definitely light front end. It's that stupid chopper idea that screws up the frame geometry. But i bought it for $300 and it cost about $100 to fix it so it's been fine. I still have it and will sell it before coming back to US, looks like mid Feb. There's a few pics below of the Kawi BJ250TR, the Honda Phantom and the 2000 Ninja 250 I bought while i was back in DC for the holidays. $550 and it's a hot little bike. I think I got a good deal and can't wait to fix her up for the spring. thanks, Baz http://www.flickr.com/photos/69874352@N00/12026070834/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/69874352@N00/12025958095/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/69874352@N00/12026662506/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/69874352@N00/11956338934/ Last futzed with by baz666; January 19th, 2014 at 01:50 AM. Very interesting! How do you manage to have access to the tools needed to fix up the bikes while working in a foreign country?
