RojoRacing sets new Record at Laguna Seca

Well it was a Personal record at least since I have no idea what a fast lap there is on a race preped bike.
Here was my fast lap of the weekend going over 1.5 seconds faster then last time, even with another 10 or lbs of cummuting hardware attached vs last time.

I'll try and post a few videos over the course of the week but here are the first two.

Fast lap almost ending in a crash

Following my buddy Bert on his first ride on Laguna and first time ever on a FZ9 still uploading as of 10pm PST

Nice save! Did he miss a gear, or were you just carrying 40% more corner speed?

A combo of both. He is recently off a good crash last month and this is his first time back on the saddle. Plus he's running all new suspension so he was a little on edge in the slow turn.

I have to ask: is that scratching when you're leaned left the sound of the camera case dragging on asphalt?

lap record is around 1:20 held by the motogp folk
1:51 is pretty fast though, that's around where I can get on gran turismo and everything is easier on simulators.
Nice riding

Rojo is a fast guy. I wanna be a fast guy. How do I become a fast guy?

In all seriousness, though, please post more videos of the way you ride. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I greatly appreciate them.

Brilliant lap and nice save... I'm sure you could have shaved a few tenths if it wasn't for that near accident in the last turn

At first I too thought it was the GoPro case last year because I haven't drug knee in like 10 years. But this weekends I actually drug my knee quite a bit and it sounds the way it does because I run ceramic knee sliders so it's like dragging a rock across the ground.

I think I subconsciously hold back quite a bit when I track day this bike because its in full street trim and also my daily commuter. I went faster this weekend because I ran one higher gear through most corners so the motor wasn't holding me back through the corners. I let myself push a little harder but it was mostly a few minor tweaks to my shift points that allowed me to flow just a bit better.

I know we tell everyone not to look at their speedometer while on track because it'll destract you but on this bike in practice I do it all the time on corner exit. Because this bike is so slow it just creeps through the mph on corner exit so I glance down on corner exit and take a mental note of my speed. Example would be turn 4, earlier in the day I was exiting in 4th gear(my best guess) at 78 mph WOT at 12,500 rmps and shifting right after the corner. After I started short shifting into 5th as I would still slightly touch the front brake to set the balance of the bike forward but then I'd be right back to WOT like before, the difference was I was at like 11,500 rmps which felt like I was bogging the bike a bit but now my corner exit speed was 81mph and I didn't need to wasn't time with a shift down that next strait. I made this change in turn 4, 6, 9 & 10 and each time it was a difference of 2-3 mph on corner exit. Its kinda like using real time data to check if changes to technique are making you faster or slower. If I was taking this serious I'd probably go with one tooth shorter then my stock 14-45 gearing so ether a 14-46 of equivalent so when I run that taller gear through the corner I can be a few hundred RPMs more in the good part of the powerband.

I just watched both videos and I think I have found a way to go faster which would improve your lap times.

If you watch the videos closely you notice the front wheel turns forward sometimes, backwards sometimes, and other times it appears to stop completely. If you can ride so the front wheel goes forward all the time I think you will go considerately faster which would improve your lap times immensely.

switch to drag strips, they will teach you the way of making the front wheel go forward and only forward

Looks like it's just off of it, but that 1:48 number is pretty fuzzy.

I watched his riding a second time and can see exactly what you mean. I found another rider with the same problem:

Considering how fuzzy that 1:48 is, I can't find the source for it in the thread for some reason. I'd believe that rojo has the fastest 250class lap time on laguna seca. Regardless it's still a pretty quick lap time
