Metal screen in airbox?

Anyone who retained their airboxes (and did not go pod filter route) did you guys tossed away with the metal screen? I replaced with BMC air filter and am thinking if i should just toss it away, a slight better airflow.

Note : I cannot do away with airbox or snorkel due to racing organization rules.

Info much appreciated, thanks !

I have read on another forum for my other bike that if u pull the metal screen off of your stock filter that it is supposed to flow more air then a K@N. The theory behind it makes sence im just not sure how well it will filter that way.

Thanks for the info. I initially took it off. Would have increased the airflow. The bike is going to be a racebike only but in production class. The tech of my local club confirmed the screen cannot be removed, so i put it back
