Not sure if I should tell this one

I live in a climate that requires that for a few months out of the year my bike sits unused. I often go out to the garage and tinker on my bikes, and sit on them to keep the cabin fever at bay. Last winter the bike I had in the garage was on its center stand till spring.

I got used to not having to put down the side stand when dismounting....

First ride in the spring I'm all smiles. Having a great time. Pull in to a park and hop off the bike. Bike crashes to the pavement. Got a few nice scratches in the plastics and a dented muffler. Oh yes, there were people watching. Felt pretty stupid.

Anyone else have any good ones?

Yes, side-stand digging slowly into a soft surface did lead to similar bike's fall and rider's feeling

The day I bought my bike, I rode it from Boston, to my house. I wanted to fill it at the gas station next to my house, so I stopped there. I went to put the side stand down, and didn't notice that it was not all the way down, and dropped it on myself in the middle of the station. 6 or 7 people ran to help me. Super embarrassing. Glad to know I'm not the only one though.

Yup, i did it on my 250, and it also happened to my fathers 67 honda that he keeps at my house now. I felt terrible (still havent told him, thats how much he uses it). Sad part was i DID put the kickstand on his bike down, but it rolled forward and popped it up, it fell over onto my GFs 250, we just got home from a ride and her exhaust was still hot, so his seat got a little metled, and broke the mirror off . His bike has 8,000 ORIGINAL miles on it, he never dropped it, and 45 years after he bought it, im the one who drops the thing. Now thats a ****** feeling.

Maybe one day ill tell him, for now i ghetto painted the small seat area that melted hoping he doesnt notice. I bought new mirrors for it, he only had a left mirror and no right mirror, said that how it came. So i told him i got tired of having no right mirror and ordered a NOS set for it. He restored the bike 2 years ago when i got my 250, it sat in the garage unused for 20 years prior.

f********ck that is the saddest drop story I know.

I did the same to my ex500 when i was trying to sell it. Went from perfect firings to broken front firings and busted turn signal

I seem to only drop bikes while not in motion, it sucks, but better than the other option!

Well it's good to hear I'm not alone.

I sold that bike shortly after and spent all summer on a KLR650. The KLR spent tons of time on its side on the trail, and it never bothered me. I guess the KLR was just so ugly to begin with it didn't matter.

Now that I'm back on a sport bike I guess I have to start caring again.

It hasn't happened to me, but I did something even more stupid. I wanted to test my brake lights were working before a ride so I hit the left side foot brake... yep... there is no left side foot brake... that's the shifter. The bike jolted forward and then with me on it fell on its side. I managed to catch it on the way down though and gently set it down on its side so there wasn't any damage. Very embarrassing though

I was working on a friend of mine's beat up Ninja 650R, and I hopped on it just to make sure the handlebars were set up correctly and everything felt right. I forgot we had taken the stand off, and when I dismounted I just stepped off and watched the bike fall to the ground.

When I first got my rear stand I tried to straighten the bike up so I could line it up properly with the spools. The friggen' rear fender was in the way of the rear stand handle so I tried to maneuver it a bit more and ended up dropping the bike on its right side... sigh.

Luckily I was able to "guide" it down and my lawn mower broke the fall, lol.

My slip-on got a little scratched up but it wasn't too bad.
