2016 300 questions
So I just picked up a baby of a 300 for the wife. 2016 ABS with 300 miles.
I rode it around the neighborhood and she's put a few miles on it, when it hit me. I've never had a new vehicle ever. Although I guess my 250 qualifies since it had 1200 miles. But it was also 10 years old when I got it. Soooo. Are there any recalls or things to tighten down on these bikes? It almost seems like the throttle has too much play before engagement and the clutch seems to lag a bit. But I'm also used to my 6r with precision everything. Well everything but the rider Also no idea how they were breaking it in, but it definitely had an oil change at 100 miles. I was thinking about having her keep rpms below 5k until she hits 400miles and then bump it up to 6-7k for a few hundred miles. However the nubs on the pegs are ground down so apparently it was ridden and not babied the first 300 miles. So not sure how to approach this just yet. |

It sounds like it was already broken in. Just ride it like you normally ride.

I spoke with the guy again that we bought it from because we forgot to get the owners book from him. He said he did a hard break in. So at this point I told her to ride it how she wants.

I've never bought a new motorized vehicle either, and I probably never will.

If the oil was only changed at 100 miles, I would change it again, especially since the previous owner broke it in hard.
Then again, I change all the fluids anyway when I buy a used bike, but with only 300 miles, I'd only worry about the oil. |

Congrats on your new toy! It is probably a good idea to change the oil, though. And check things over. You never know what the previous owner did or didn't do.
There was a recall on the gas tank bolts with some years. I took mine in to the dealer to have it looked at, verify that the bolts are good. They checked it out for free. Also, mark the engine mount bolts with some paint markers so you can easily see if they start backing out. And check them periodically.... |
