Is it typical for dealerships to not have a 250r in stock during the winter?
I sent an email to a local dealer asking if they have any, and his entire reply was: "Two left." like he is telling me to get 'em while they're hot.
At this point if I do buy new, I'm going to buy it in the winter, I think. However, I'm wondering if there are going to be any left. I mean, if I buy her in the winter, she's just going to be interior decoration until riding season. And I guess I'll be paying for insurance while it's sitting in the garage, versus waiting until the spring to buy a 250r when they're a tad more expensive?

I don't know then. It's either I buy one very soon as October is around the corner, or, I wait patiently for spring. I think I should still buy my gear now regardless?

i've heard you can always get better deals after riding season is done and right before riding season is about to begin. and also why not look for used? sometimes there are ppl looking to get rid of bikes at the end of the season so they can upgrade next season or if they just don't have storage. you can score a good deal.

+1 on gear before bike. I had close to a grand invested in gear before I bought my ride. No regrets.

I got my Ninja 250R around Christmas last year and the showroom floor was so full you could barely walk around. The same shop a week ago was almost empty. I asked and they said they were waiting for inventory. The Triumph/Suzuki dealership was just the opposite - empty in Winter and full in Summer.

If you're not planning on riding it till next year anyway, you can wait till next spring to put it on the road, and insure it. Unless the dealer does the DMV paperwork when you buy it, then you may have to show proof of insurance. At least that's how it works in NY. Your state may be different.
Also in my area, most dealers stay open, as in winter they sell snowmobiles and atvs, and may have some rides still in stock. Hope this helps. Posted via Mobile Device |

I went to look at bikes back in February to see if I liked the 250R. In order to actually sit on one they had to take me back into their storage area and I had to go up a few flights of stairs to the top where all the bikes were lined up and packed together. In the end I didn't buy from that dealer because their customer service was terrible. When I finally got my license in April I bought my my from a different dealer. Was the last one they had. About a month after I bought my bike they closed up shop without notice. So in the end, I'm trying to say, go look around. Make sure the dealer has been around for a while and isn't going to sell you a bike and then forget about you. See if they actually ride or if they just work there because it's a job. A couple years ago I was looking to get some boots for my ATV. When I went in looking they seemed confused and had trouble finding what I wanted. They didn't know anything about the boots I bought and I had to go online to learn more. At my new dealer they clearly know the products they are selling. The service guys are more than willing to answer your questions and know what they are talking about. So, Find a bike you like, but make sure it's a good dealer too in case you ever need to go back. |

I got a very good deal on a dirt bike once in December because the salesman didn't want it as part of the showroom inventory once the next calendar year rolled around.

My dealer told me low stock on all the hot products from Japan Nuclear disaster.
Just got this info yesterday. It's a big deal over there. Now is a great time to buy with the season ending soon! Cool weather creeping in! They been sitting on bikes all year unless it's a 250... all the 250's are selling like hotcakes and UNDERSTOCKEd. My 750 had been sitting there 200 days collecting dust! They bent over for us a bit and worked with us good.

blupoof made a good comment. Wait till late november, december. I drove to the sprawling metropolis of bear Run PA (622mi rt) and saved $700 on my '09.
If the local guys had them...they all wanted $4299 PLUS FRT ! |

Last time I was at the dealership to get my bike serviced, the dealer was very interested in getting me to "upgrade" and trade in my 250.
They had no 250s on the sales floor and everyday they were getting calls from people looking to buy one. Between the great mileage, looks, cost and overall fun the 250 is in high demand. Good luck with your shopping! |
