used bike with aftermarket gauges

Might be a silly question, please bear with me, I am not a very technical guy.....

I am slowly starting to look at CL and other places for another bike (mostly likely of the Thruxton/Bonnie type) and I see various adds for bikes that have aftermarket gauges. For example there is 2005 Bonnie with only 1800 miles on it, but with aftermarket gauges.

My question is, when you replace the gauges, am I right to assume that it "resets" the mileage to 00000 and so the 1800 on this particular bike could be from the time the owner made the change?

Thanks!

On the Koso gauges unless you send it in to Koso and have them add in your existing milage you'll be starting over. I didn't bother sending mine in since I only had 1500 miles, I have 18,500 now so a total of 20,000. I could swap back to my stock gauges and sell the bike with 1500 miles so moral is you can't trust a motorcycle milage 100% so look at the bike good and close and judge its current condition.

Best of luck with your new purchase.

i had 4500mi before i changed the gauge and just installed the new guage at 0 without the fan trick.
the new guage just reached 5000 so i add the mileage together.

if the owner has any service records and receipts for parts it could help prove the mileage, if you cross check the maintenance intervals.

also you can ask about the tires and see if they been changed.

You could ask to see the original speedo, which should show the mileage at the time it was removed, like the Titanic's clock.
