Almost lost my hand today

I was gearing up to head home, started to put my glove on and felt a "nibble". I pulled my hand out and this ferocious creature was trying to eat me. I'm lucky to have survived with my hand in tact, and my life. On a side note. He looked rather happy to be mauling me. Luckily I was spared. He let go in favor of a nearby bush, probably his next ambush spot to attack unsuspecting passing victims. One of my coworkers took a picture of it for me for memories of this close call.

Watch out people. You could be next!!

Anyone else find weird things in their glove? lol!

LOL! His nubby little teeth felt funny, it was like velcro attaching to your skin. The little guy really thought he had something good. It honestly took me a good 2 minutes to coax him off my finger. I'd let him hang over the bush thinking he would release, but he just bit harder and started flailing like he was about to rip off a piece. lol!

There was one of those crawling on the wall behind my bed last night. I got scared and slept on the couch when I lost track of it.

They can be feisty. I used to have a few and they were pretty chill. But my nose caught the wrath of one of my collared lizards one day. He just launched at it and hung there for minutes like you experienced. I still have a scar from that little bastard.

They aren't Chameleons at all. People call them that just because they can change color and they all think that color-changing lizards are Chameleons. It always bugged me as a kid. Many, if not MOST lizards can change color a little bit. Chameleons are the only ones I know of that can match any patterns or colors, which is something completely different. All a Green Anole can do is shift between brown and green with a black patch behind the eyes. The red throat is always there but only visible when the white skin is stretched.

It's just like when people call a full-sized hornet or other wasp a "yellow jacket" just because it's yellow and black. Well, a Geen Anole can only shift between two specific colors (one pigment change) and it would have to have the fill color shifting abilities to be equivalent.

There are REAL Chameleons in FL so there is no reason to call these "American Chameleons" either.

These guys are harmless. That's how they all feel. They seem toothless but there are tiny little teeth that that let them hang on "like velcro." I assure you, he did not think that he "had something good." If you watch them eat bugs, it's completely different from when you handle them and get them to clamp on. All you have to do is tap their nose a couple times and they will open their mouth to chomp on you the next time you "dare" try it (little guys think they got somethin' to show ). They will then hold it open until you try again or they feel that you are done messing with them, which is not what they do to their food.

I used to let them clamp onto my ears and they'd hang there like long, decorative ear-rings. I remember finding five of them indoors at work one day in the warehouses and office building. Anyway, how did he have access to your gloves? You should keep them inside so no spiders find their way in.

OK, I know I called them harmless, but I saw some REALLY big ones in FL and one was actually large enough to draw tiny little pin-pricks of blood. They are usually only a few inches but this one was well over a foot (yes, it was a normal Green Anole).

I always put my gloves in my office. The office is overlooking our warehouse and like the warehouse, is not climate controlled so it's nice and toasty all the time. I see quite a few green anole zipping around the buildings landscaped areas. I guess the little guy was hanging around in the warehouse and just found his way into my office and made a home out of my glove. All my other gear gets put on a hanger and goes on the back of my office door. This is the first time I've had something in my glove. I always check my helmet, boots and such since I've had stuff (mostly scorpions) find their way into them before. These little lizards are everywhere around here, but they usually stay well away from people which is why I thought this was so funny.

Maybe this little guy was just trying to help me out and found a bug crawling into my glove and went in to eat it, found it so nice and comfy after his meal and decided to sleep it off in there until I rudely awoke him.

Proper or not, they are widely referred to as common chameleons, or american chameleons. They even sell them in pet stores under the same names.

Except that "Common Chameleon" is a type of REAL Chameleon (yes, one called "Common Chameleon") and there are real Jackson's Chameleons in America too (HI and FL). I always wanted a pet Chameleon as a kid and if I got a common Green Anole I would have been very disappointed. Know what I was doing when I found that huge Green Anole in FL that was capable of drawing blood? I was looking for a real Chameleon while I visited family there because I knew that they existed in the wild.

I've never seen a pet store sell Green Anoles mostly because they are everywhere in the wild.

We didn't have them on long island. We had some salamanders, garter snakes and turtles. Anoles were only a few bucks in pet shops so I had a couple. I was so excited when I visited family in Florida and discovered they were all over the place in the wild. I'm not sure what lizards we have in Cali but they're all over here too. Brown and scruffy looking.

Whenever I go to France my eyes light up when I see all the lil lizards running about the place. They're so cool. There aren't any in England. Guess it's too cold, and rains too much... and is too depressing - they'd probably all kill themselves. I need to get out of this place and move somewhere warmer!
