Removing stock decals from 2009 SE

I have the green 2009 Special Edition with the white stripes. I noticed that some people have mentioned removing them from the bike. I was wondering how difficult it is to remove them from the fairings? Is it going to leave some sticky residue that'll take forever to scrub off or will the stickers fragment into a million small pieces that my thumbs will never forgive me for? Anyone with experience with this issue please chime in, I'd love to hear how it went.

Hey guys, I know this thread was from a while ago, but you might be able to help me out with an answer to a question i can't seem to find anywhere.

I'll be needing to remove some decals on a 2012 250r soon and have searched everywhere but can't seem to find an answer to a question...

Will i need to remove the fairings to do it safely, or can i heat up the decals enough to remove them easily with the fairings in place without blowing up the bike and myself?

It's probably a ridiculous question, but if i remove them all and then find out i didn't have too.... i'll be slightly(!) annoyed. I have no experience with anything mechanical so bike maintenance will be a HUGE learning curve for me.

Thanks

You don't need to remove the fairings.

Removing the fairings in order to remove the decals is probably unnecessary since it's all on the outside. I had never even changed the oil on my car before so I went in with the same amount of experience as you and I must say it's rewarding and gives you a nice little sense of accomplishment doing the maintenance yourself

One note, you may want to have a little bottle of goo gone handy in case the decals leave any sticky residue behind you want to get off.

Thanks, that's a relief. At some point I'll get my skills up enough so that I can remove the fairings but I was hoping I wouldn't have to do it so soon. I'm actually looking forward to learning to maintain the bike myself!

Thanks for the tip on the goo gone, I'll pick some up

Sorry to say that if you have a 2012 it'll never be a 250r!

Unfortunately, i'm from Australia, and they've shafted us, so your smiley face is still applicable This is my thread about the 2012 250r SE i'm getting, and the reason i'm enquiring about removing decals!

He just means that the 2012 version is no longer called a 250R it's simply a Ninja 250

Decals are super easy to remove so you can leave the fairings on. Just use a blow dryer and blast it for a little but (under 30 seconds should do the trick) Pick up a corner, do the small section around it, blast it, peel up a little bit, do the next section around it and so on.

Also, removing the plastics (fairings) is actually quite easy, don't be afraid to do it! Just keep in mind those three plastic...whatevers... that hold the 2 fairings together at the bottom were made by Kawasaki just to piss us off...

Thanks, I'm just a bit nervous about removing the fairings as i seem to have a natural talent for breaking things but it does seem easy enough, i just looked at the photos of those plastic things and if i'm going to break anything, it'd be something like that!

Yeah... Kawasaki Australia seemed to have missed the memo on dropping the 'R' haha, here's the AU site:
