Best engine/motor refresher

So my bike has a lot of mileage,

engine runs well, BUT i want to get opinions on the best products to use to clean out the motor?

Please no oil suggestions lol, i change it every 3000km

Sea foam, this good for the bikes?

Anything else?

Next to Sea Foam I would suggest "Techron" by Chevron.. It is the same stuff they put in their gasoline.

This.

I only use Chevron on my Benz for that exact same reason. I've yet to fill up my bike since I just got it but I'll get to it eventually.

Also check out STP's products.

Sea-foam works pretty good.
Then you probably also want to flush the coolant, and oil. That would pretty much be it.

Any fuel treatment that is PEA (polyether amine) based. Chevron Techron Concentrate is the original but might be difficult to source out since from what I know, there are no Chevron gas stations in Alberta. You might be able to get some from your local Chevrolet dealer since there were using them on Corvettes to treat malfunctioning fuel gauge sensors.

Otherwise you can get this. It contains PEA.

All that **** is snake oil. Give it a fresh complete rebuild.

What's a lot of miles? Miles are indicative of nothing if the bike was maintained. There's a pre-gen with over 100k miles on it. Unless if your bike has over 50k miles I wouldn't say it has a lot. Why do you believe it needs a rebuild? It runs, doesn't it? If performance is noticeably suffering (and isn't a paranoid thought in your head) then trust me, you WILL notice and no amount of liquid anything you put in your gas or oil is going to help you. But rebuilding your engine will!

How much is a lot of mileage? Either way go to Canadian Tire and get some Motomaster "small engine tune up" its a little square bottle of green stuff that should be in the additives section.

There is nothing you can pour into an engine that is better or different than clean oil. All additives are snake oil crap that will not fix any problems. If the engine is running OK.. Then proper matinance like oil change valve adjustment should done.

What do you consider high mileage? I'm just crossing 64,000km. You just worried about sludge build up? Should have any if you're changing oil every 3000kms and using a quality oil. But if you really worried next oil change, , , drain oil while engine is completely warmed (don't change filter) fill to level with kerosene oil. Hold bike level and start bike at idle only till oil light goes off. Shut off bike, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and drain oil/kerosene, change filter and put in fresh oil. That's about as clean as your going to get it. Not sure about using car engine restore additives as they may harm the clutch plates.

Never heard of the kerosene trick before....but i might try that in my old subaru....seems to have a collapsed lifter, think that will help?

You still driving the surbaru? Try adding some ATF trans fluid to the engine oil, around half a litre/quart, but don't over fill. the higher cleaning properties of the ATF will sometimes loosen a stuck lifter.

atf nononononononooooooooooooooooo

everyone who is putting additives into their oil are ruining the bearings in the engine.

every engine will get "dirty" its just the way it is.

flat 4's are more prone due to the way the engine is designed

Ok...'splain why some atf in the oil would trash the bearings....it works fine in transmissions and they have bearings. Also why are flat 4s more susceptible to those problems? And yes i do still drive the 91 subaru...it still runs well with 175k on the clock. I think the body will rust out before the engine dies lol.

Rebuild. The one and only true way to verify all is well and all is fresh.

suggestions

JMO but my experience tells me with high mileage motors that are running well to ADD NOTHING to the crankcase. The reason being is that any petroleum based product designed to clean the motor could possibly clean too well and loosen foeign particles that could get into oil passages and clog the motor starving it for oil. It could also "open" the rod cleanances causing a lower oil pressure.

I would do a compression test, balance the carbs, check maybe replace the plugs shine alight into the spark plug holes and look at the carbon build up..those kinds of things. Remember the axiom, "If it ain't broke then don't fix it" applies here. Larry
