2011 Ninja 250 high idle
This morning I was on the freeway and when I got off and stopped at a stop light my idle was suddenly at 3k rpm!? Bike was running totally fine before then so that was very confusing for me. I’m not super mechanically inclined so if I don’t have to take out the carb and clean it that would be sweet, but I guess that’s what comes with the territory. Have had the bike for about 6 months and had the carb cleaned by a shop when I purchased it. Bike has 4k miles on it.

Did the choke cable get hung up?

I’ll see if I can check that tonight, though that seems like a weird thing to spontaneously happen… Choke was off during the ride so for it to get stuck in the on position seems odd to me. Before getting on the freeway the idle was normal at 1-1.5

I suppose a vacuum leak may be more likely. I spray of carb cleaner around the carbs while running may lead you to a cracked boot or misplaced vacuum line. It's hard to say, these carbs are tiny and any imperfection is magnified in how they idle, just gotta get in there and start digging.

Well I have no idea what I did but it’s better now. I’m guessing maaaaybe either the choke or throttle cable was hung up or something because I did give them both a jiggle, though there didn’t seem anything off with them at the time. Weird.

Could also be choke-cable needs lubrication.
