250r Popping Out Of Gear

So once in a while my 250 pops out of gear, mainly in 2nd gear it seems, always during accel. Scares me to death, especially when I'm under semi-hard throttle.

Anyone else have this problem?

Not really. I do know that when it happens it is because I didn't make a solid shift.

Sounds like your clutch cable or shifter needs some adjustment.

are you making a solid shift from 1st to 2nd every time? If not, it can often times slip down into nuetral if the shift from 1-2 is not solid.

If you are making solid shifts, then this probably wont be an easy repair. rounded gear dogs and bent or worn shift forks can be a costly transmission repair...IF it comes to that.

It could also be a simple shifter adjustment. The foot lever may be a tad high, and out of the range of his ankle movement. Lower it by a tooth or two, and see if that helps.

You either don't have it all the way in gear, it needs adjusted, or you bent a shift fork (or you have a blue bike).

lol, I DO have a blue bike...

Anyway, I think it may be a clutch adjustment issue, my clutch handle seems to maybe not quite go all the way engaged when I let it forward. If that makes sense. I'll fiddle with it.

*edit*

Ok, I adjusted the clutch line and the shifter mechanism in ways suggested above, we'll give it a while and see if it helps. Thanks guys.

I had this problem when I first got the bike. It would randomly pop out of gear even with the clutch handle adjusted correctly. Also, I had the problem where it would pop out of 6th into a false neutral. I initially thougt it was user error, but I started purposefully making sure I was shifting properly and still had the problem. I changed my oil early in, and the problem stoped so I never had the dealer check it out. When I got the 600 mile check up it started again, looked at my invoice and said "bulk 10W40 generic" under the parts list. I changed my oil imediately with kawi oil and it solved the problem again. So take that for what it is worth, but maybe the transmissions on these sr just very picky about oil? For me it only does it with the bulk oil they use at the dealership. I change to regular old Kawisaki oil and it fixes it.

Awesome, I'm due for an oil change, so I suppose I can just shotgun this problem. Thanks for the suggestions, sir.

I have this problem . It happens under hard acceleration . Kinda finds a false neutral. I blame myself for it most of the time . It dose not happen when I am deliberate between first and second. It never happens in any other gear.

I have the same problem, always thought it was my poor shifting. Didn't know that I could adjust the shifter foot lever to accommodate. Thought I had to replace the whole rearset to improve the ergos.

Any tips or pix to help make this adjustment?

PS-My bike is blue also!

adjustment pics in here... I won't hold you having a blue bike against you, but in the future, I wouldn't advertise it either!

I had this problem before and it stopped doing it when I tightened the loose chain. Check your chain and see.

Interesting. I'm due to take the bike in for a dealer maintenance, still have some money on that 'plan' i got transferred from the original owner. Anyone have tips on adjusting the chain themselves?
