2 Stroke Questions...

I'm going to go look at a YZ125.

I want the link that shows what you have to look for, and ask about when buying a used bike. Then, I want you to add what I should ask on top of that, since it's a two stroke.

Last, what should I carry when riding the bike on trails...I heard that you should carry spark plugs...not sure why lol

Also, how well will it do on trails?

If it's a 2-stroke, see if it has a seat. A lot don't.

If you don't know what questions to ask, the answers won't have any significance to you... I think you should probably look for a local riding club and bother them with this crap see if they might be able to help.

I've had a sparkplug come loose whilst riding my 50cc 2stroke scooter, it's the vibration on the things that's the culprit. Won't hurt to carry a spare, even on our ninjas.

Exclamation

hes trolling you about the seat thing... that bike in the pictures looks like a trial bike and most of them dont have seats because they are for stunts and crap
As for questions to ask.
Ask if the engine has any porting mods or anything like that.
I mean changing the porting on a 2 stroke to get more power isn't bad but it could reduce life of a motor.
Carry extra plugs yes because they do get ruined alot faster than 4 stroke because oil is also in the same chamber with gas. not to mention they vibrate alot more
Look for frame cracks, happens more often in dirtbikes. Check forkseals.
That's about all i can think of.

If you have any more questions just ask :P

That trials bike is four stroke and all dirt bikes have seats . Trials bikes are very specialized category of motorcycle. They often don't have seats

If you are looking at a 2 stroke

1) compression test it
2) check the transmission/ gear oil - it should be nice oil clearish color not grey or white !
3) check the exhaust for dents or cracks . Leaks ect
4) yz are pre mix so make sure the fuel has the proper fuel to oil mixture
5) check the shocks for rebound , seal weeping ect

Check the coolant discoloration or low coolant could be bad

Check chain sprocket for wear

Check the spark plug to see if it is rich or lean
Lean conditions (white plug) indicate lots of problems
Check wheel and triple bearings

Check everything
6) look for bends or cracks in frame especially for damage around the front sprocket ! People often hide damage with mud dirt and oil

You can get an enduro or street bike for like a few hundred bucks if you shop around on cl
Get a project and make it a earning experience

Check the spec for how often it should have it's top end rebuilt, rebuilds are a fair bit of work if you can do them yourself, or an expensive job at a shop

2stroke top end rebuilds are real cheap compared to 4strokes but are done more often. if the top end hasn't been done in awhile negotiate the price lower

Not 2 stroke 125's they depend on revs not torque.

you can license all KTM's in some states, 2T or 4T, can't license a CRF450R 4T

but less costly than a 4T rebuild
