Overfilled 2004 Ninja 250r tank, now no acceleration past 1/4 throttle
2004 Kawasaki Ninja 250r, with ~3k miles. Bike had it's carb cleaned and a bunch of work done in the last 6 months by previous owner to restore.
Was running great until I overfilled the gas tank like an idiot and now it won't accelerate past 1/4 throttle, though I can still slowly get it up to speed. Wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for diagnosis? Might it be a simple fix? |

Welcome to the board Charlie!
Overfilling the tank didn't make the engine not accelerate past 1/4 throttle, that's a coincidence. Undoubtedly your carbs are not really clean. As I guess, something is stuck in one or both of your main jets. The carbs are small for a small engine, so the jets are small. Also the internal passages are convoluted and hard to clean. It takes some real effort to get them truly clean. One of our members runs a professional carb service which I can vouch for. I'm not suggesting you should not do the work yourself, but if you decide to send them out for restoration, consider "Ducatiman". You should check to see if the small inline filter is in place in the carb fuel inlet. You have to pull off the rubber hose to find out. Without that little filter, junk from the tank can get in the carbs and clog things up. I chose to remove mine and put a small pleated paper filter in the line instead. It will filter better and take a lot more junk before it gets clogged. |

Thank you for the welcome! I rebuilt and cleaned the carb this weekend and it is running like new again. Thank you Jim and all! It had been bogging down sporadically, but this time was persistent so it needed a good cleaning. Thanks again all!
