Getting around to replacing my forks this weekend. What should I know? Tips?
Finally getting around to replacing my bent forks. A friend is helping me who has done it many times before, that I trust.
I've searched around on the internet and it doesn't seem too difficult. One of my main questions that I have that I can find the answer to is, how much of the fork should be showing from the upper triple? If my question makes sense. Like the ends of the forks don't sit flush through the triple, so what's the length of fork that should be showing? Any other tips would be appreciated as well. Edit: And OF COURSE I find the answer right after posting. 12mm. |

According to the service manual, 12mm. I think the most important thing would be to make sure it sticks out the same distance as the other side though.

I'm pretty sure that just ties in with fork alignment. I didn't really do anything specific when I took out my forks beyond eyeballing it though, mostly because I didn't really think about it and also because I removed the forks and lower triple as one unit so they should've stayed in-line. Haven't had anything go wrong yet. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.
