Is this a good combination?

Even when living in a hot weather, I have been away from wearing mesh gear just because I have read stories of plastic mesh melting into skin during long slides over pavement.

This combination textile above - mesh under makes me think that the mesh still could melt under the abrasion heat that the Cordura will transfer.

How wrong am I?

Without reading that, just how fast are you going to create that much friction that you could make the mesh melt? Just asking

Right, but i dont think that stuff melts or that melting would be the least of your worries if your skidding on the ground, right?

Yes, it is important to me to know how mesh has performed in real crashes.

Erosion wise, has anybody here being properly protected by mesh in a real slide over pavement event?

I have crashed in tex tiles twice. Each time they were about as useful as the cotton alternative. I only use leather now

I'm certainly not disagreeing, but I am curious for more specifics on this. Cotton t-shirts disintegrate immediately in a skid; denim lasts only a few feet. Are you saying that your textile gear literally didn't last more than a few feet before it was completely disintegrated?

If that's the case, what specific gear were you using? Again, not disagreeing, just want more info. I'm a low-speed commuter, and I'd like to avoid any misconceptions about the safety of the gear I'm wearing.

don't take my word for it. put on your jacket and go take a dive on the pavement. if its good gear you wont damage it or yourself. if its bad gear it will fall to pieces and you'll hurt like you took a dive into pavement.

In this case, your word is exactly what I was looking for... Experience is the best teacher, but someone else's experience is definitely an easier one.

Surprisingly slowly.

Ride your bicycle up to 20 mph. Grab the back brake lever for all you're worth. Hop off quick as soon as you stop and feel the skiddy spot on your rear tire. Notice how hot it is?

Now imagine falling off a motorcycle at 60 mph.

Isn't by friction that matches light up?

Yes, there will be heat, especially for bony areas trapped under the bike or locked in a position in which that part of the body can't roll or tumble over.

I just heard or read somewhere that some skin rashes have included mesh inserted in the skin; don't know how much of a myth that may be.

Yeah, but they're also coated, so that friction is really just adding that little bit of activation energy needed to start a chemical reaction, which lights the match.

even when textiles dont rip or shred, they still have no deformation resistance so regardless your skin is still completely torn up underneath.

leather specs are easy to compare the thicker the leather the better...

with textile jackets its a lot more complex...
a good jacket depends on a lot of different factors.
-the construction of the jacket
-the material.
-layers of material
-coatings
-type of thread/stitching
-armor
-fit
-liners, etc.

i have seen crappy textiles burn through.
haven't seen what a high end revit can withstand yet.
