A Saturday morning well spent

Well, since it's still feckin' freezin' out, there's sand all over the roads and that B*TCH Ma Nature is going to dump MORE snow on us tomorrow and Monday, I decided to spend some quality time with my bike in the workshop.

I went through and actually did everything I'll need to do immediately before my track day. (I've already safety wired it.) As in access and actually disconnect every electrical lead necessary to disable the lights, take the mirrors and license plate off, etc. etc.

And sure enough, I learned a few things. Like the fact that just about every freakin' electrical connector on my bike has a latch that works in a different way. I have to unplug the tail light, two marker lights in front, all four turn signals and the headlight. Eight connectors in total. Of FIVE different types. Some you have to lift the tab to unlock, some you have to depress, some you have to stick a screwdriver into... and none are all that obvious. My fingers are killing me.

But I'm really glad I figured it all out now rather than the night before when I've got a thousand things on my mind.

Note to Suzuki: Why couldn't you have run the instrument cluster through a different fuse than the signal lights? You made it really easy to do things like take the mirrors off to prep the bike for the track... but I guess letting us just yank one fuse to disable the lights would have been too difficult.

That is cumbersome. On my 10R, I would just yank two fuses for the headlight and the indicator/brakelights and call it a day. (and remove the mirrors) That said, why do you really care about removing the turn signal fuse or the turn signal wires; just don't hit the indicator switch. Or the marker lights, for that matter.

Marker lights come on with the ignition (they're little bulbs in the headlight housing).. and I have to yank the front turn signals anyway because they're housed in the mirrors.

Much easier now that I've done it once. The first time is always the hardest.

(That's what SHE said.... *rimshot* )

I feel the urge to go do more. Maybe I'll find something else to safety wire. Oh, I know! Radiator cap!

Isn't required by why the h*ll not?

Well, gee, that got me through another 20 minutes.

God I'm bored. Spring can't get here fast enough.

Is this bike going to be your track weapon from now on? If it is I'd just remove the indicators all together.

Depending on the bike you have, most of the newer race replicas are setup to easily pull fuses for track days. Do you have a GSXR? I'm guessing so with the note to Suzuki.

No, it's my everyday ride.

One would think it smart to set the fuse box up so you could just pull a couple. But those geniuses ran the marker lights, indicators and instruments through the same fuse. Duh.

The headlight and taillight are on the same fuse on their own though right? Those are the important ones to disable anyway since they're running lights.
