2012 Candy Apple Lime w/ LEDs!!

Here's my baby. The green color of the lights is off in the first picture (probably due to my phone camera washing the two greens together) but right in the dark one. Also have a powerlette and 15t front sprocket installed. Thinking about adding a few more lines of LEDs before spring.

Looking good ryanG19! if you're going to add more, might want to add one pointing down at the rear shock/front of the swingarm area so that the back is lit up too, without pointing back at traffic following you

I'll get back to you in the morning with the seller. I need to look him up again.

Yeah, I put an on off toggle switch and an inline fuse while running the LEDs and powerlette together. Wired straight to the battery. Works great.

Might be a stupid question but does that mean someone could walk up to the bike switch the switch on without the key in the ignition and it would still turn on and drain your battery?

yepp. I would wire a relay in so that the lights can't be turned on unless the key is flipped to the on position

Here's the same seller as the ones I bought (12v and waterproof).:

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...id=39332648726

Install was pretty easy. I took a ton of pictures when I did it so if you want to see them I can upload them later today.

As for the on off switch not being wired to a relay, they draw so little power that it would literally take longer than a week to discharge the battery.

Makes me miss my lights... I got a ticket for mine. But I think it was because I was being stupid. Riding with a bunch of friends, showing off, had them strobing. Cops don't like that at all... :/

Here are my pics of how I did it. I have some split loom covering the wires now so they don't burn up.

*LED and 12V Powerlette Cost Analysis
LEDs (8 strips x 24cm) $17.98
Quick Disconnects $2.99
Switch $2.18
20 Amp Fuses $1.78
Fuse Holder $1.38
14 Gauge Black Wire $5.48
12V Casco Power Outlet $8.38
Electrical Tape $1.78
Double Sided Duct Tape $6.98
Total: $48.93

Everything came from Walmart except the double sided duct tape (Lowes) and the quick connects (O'Reillys). The split loom I had laying around, but it can't cost much more than a few bucks. Honestly, I wish I would have not used double sided duct tape and put on those zip-ties attached to super sticky tape and just zip-tied the LEDs down. The double sided tape works fine and it is still holding strong after over a month, but I don't know how long it will last.

I put in the quick connects so that I can leave the lights on the fairings when I take them off. They work well but they are hard to get apart once they are "mated".

Overall, I would find where you want to mount the switch and cut your wire from there. I've got a picture of how I have my LEDs on the inside of the fairing, so you can adjust them however.

I ran the powerlette from an empty bolt hole I found on the frame right above the radiator (right side). I cheated and used the bolt from the front fairing (connects the black inner plastic to the outer fairing) to hold in the powerlette until I get around to buying one that fits.

Remember to wire all the positives on one line and all the negatives on another line. TEST THE LEDS BEFORE YOU INSTALL THEM!!! The last thing you want is to have 5 hours of work in this to find out a strip doesn't work.

As for legality, in Ohio (AFAIK) any color is legal except for flashing or solid red or blue. White and amber are explicitly stated as legal in (http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4513.13) while (http://codes.ohio.gov/oac/4501%3A2-1-09) defines the red/blue. (http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4513.17) limits the number of lights as long as they are greater than 300 candle power, which these definitely aren't. Remember anything is legal as long as it isn't defined as ILLEGAL, so since it says white is legal but fails to say that green is illegal, until I get a ticket I plan on riding around with them on. Anyone else good at law here? I'd like to know if I'm reading this wrong.

I'm a huge fan of doing things yourself. And I applaud your effort. But for $25 more, you can get pretty much the same amount of led's, already wired, fused, and ready to go with a remote. And if you don't need that many led's you can get a few less than what you've got for only about $10 more.

Yeah I've always been a DIYer. But youre also not counting in the powerlette installation run in line with the LEDs. The lights were a kicker for another $25 when the real reason was the powerlette.

I just want to charge my phone on the way to school and a GPS when I go to visit my buddies that live about 2-3 hours away. It's a lot easier to just glance down and see what road I need then to stop every 10 minutes to look at a map and figure out where the hell I need to go, but YMMV. For $50 and a night of work, it was worth it to me.

If all you are looking for is a 12v power outlet, you can do it for about $8.

I have this outlet wired into the fuse for the tail light. I can just plug my phone charger and my gps charger into it. Very easy.

I thought you got a ticket for them? Are they illegal if you just have them on and not strobing in Louisiana?

And yeah I have 4 a side. I messed around with the placement for a little while but I didnt want anyone to see the actual LEDs so I put them on the inside of the fairings.

Yeah, I did get a ticket for them. But they were flashing. I think it is still illegal here even if they are just solid, but there are A LOT of people around here that have lights in their bikes and most of them have never had any issues. So I think I'll just limit the flashing to parking lots and I should be ok.

I have 12 strips, this is where mine are going:

I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome. Only half of the leds on one of the strips are working. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Ignore the cat in the video... ha

Looks good man.

My first reaction was a short in the wiring somewhere if they are all in line, but then the whole strand wouldn't work (think Christmas lights) my guess is somehow when you "gently" placed them into a pile after your ticket, it probably dislodged some part of the LED filaments somewhere along the line.

Well, I had failed to mention that the same day I got the ticket just so happened to be the same day my clutch cable broke. So i was pretty pissed. So yeah I wasn't very gentle when I pulled *cough* ripped them out.

I went outside today and I was going to see if I could possibly fix that one, but when I turned them on, everything was working perfectly. So yeah, I have no idea. I did have to repair a couple of the wires but not on that strand, so I have no idea..
