Thumbs up 250r to a 650r :)

Bought a 650r today!

I love it so far but I see what everyone means about the 250r being so much fun (on turns/twisties and revs)!

But the 650r fits me so much better. I find it a bit more comfortable and much safer/smoother on the interstate

Why not make a 650r section on this forum?? Or is there another one out there just for 650r?

Oh and I can definitely see why people recommend a 250r to newbies too!

Quite a difference!

Neato. From that picture, the 650 actually looks much bigger than the 250R.

I was thinking that as well. Do you have your 250 lowered at all?

Nope not lowered one bit! It's really that much bigger! Suprising...I know!
I can imagine a lot of short riders would have trouble with this 650

Congrats. The 650 is a fun bike. The torque isn't brutal, but it's enough to keep you on your toes. And you will find that it's pretty nimble in the twisties. It just takes a bit more setup time than the 250. But there are very few bikes out there that you can just throw into a turn like the 250

Enjoy!!!!

I just recently downsized from the 650 to the 250. Sure, the 650 is a little better on the highways, but the 250 is MUCH more fun to ride. For me, it's all about the fun factor. It SEEMS like a bigger bike would be more fun (and maybe for you it will be), but for me...I much prefer the 250.

BTW: There are Ninja 650 forums you can join.

Andre - thx!!

Kevin - Yeah I agree on the fun factor! Thats why I will miss my 250 when I sell it! The 650 is just what I've been needing though. I'm 6'3" and 180 lbs so maybe that has something to do with it.... Thanks for the tip on the forums, guess ill take a look around for them!

i'm guessing you fit a lot better on the 650? i'm about your height and it seems like my legs are too long for the lil 250.

Thanks!

Yes, my legs fit a lot better on the 650r than the 250r.
I wasnt "uncomfortable" on the 250r by any means...
But I am much "more comfortable" on the 650r!

Great choice on the 650! They are really comfortable bikes, especially for commuting.

I agree. I don't think that we as 250R owners really take note sometimes of how other bikes really dwarf us. I bought a Ninja 1000 recently and it looks monstrous in comparison. Of course, it IS a big bike by anyone's standards, but still.

I love the newly redone 650R. I was on the fence about whether to spend 7000$ on one and modify the heck out of it, or settle on the 1000 and keep it as is. But either way, the 650R is satisfying as heck, and the same can be said for the Versys IMO.

Yeah the 1000 is nice too! But i knew i just really wanted a larger version of the 250r with more low rev power. And thats exactly what I got

And yes, the givi trunk made it MORE comfortable for my gf to ride actually because she had something to lean back when her back got tired!

Yep!

I have a 2009 650R and i'am currently looking for Topcase and Sidecases for mine!

They are expensive as hell though!!!

Topcase = Givi V46 + Givi 449FZ (mounting kit)

Sidecases = Givi V35 + Givi PLX449 (mounting kit)

There is a complete KIT on ebay, for like $800! Sidescases & mounting brackets/hardware ONLY!

It doesnt include the Topcase and its mounting brackets, etc!

All in all, if you want a Topcase (Tail of bike) and Sidecases.... your looking at like $1200-1300!!!
Too turn your 650R into a "Mini" Concours-14

You're taller than me and I have a 600 and a 250r. Look at my post, both my bikes are lowered. You will not have to lower yours as much as I had to.

I LOVED my 650, but I was never as comfortable on it as I am on my 250 because I'm too short and small. I was adapting, but my hubby wasn't comfortable on seeing me on such a big bike, so we sold it. For now, it's just me and Lil' Ninj. Maybe one day I'll upgrade again. I did LOVE my 650 the year I had it. I hope you enjoy yours!

That's exactly how I feel. I am 5' 8" and on the 650R I always felt like I was riding a horse. I can easily "flat-foot" my 250R which makes me very comfortable. Sure, the extra power of the 650R was very nice, but all things considered, I am enjoying the 250R much more. Plus, to me, the 250R is MUCH better looking.

the 650r is a great bike if you are going from a 250 as your first bike. If you had bikes with over 100hp that are in the 600cc class it would be a hard to get used to. I got the 250 cause the gas is cheap and the bike is cheap.

Hey Kevin. I'm 5'5", 115 pounds, so yeah, it was totally like a horse! ...or, er, a llama. Where's the horse smiley?

Nice choice, I made the same move to a 650R this year and am loving it! I found riderforums.com has a good 650R section (nothing like this site though). You find a good 650R forum?

I know what you mean, but I REALLY like the redesigned front fairing/lights. Although, I've never been wild about the look of windshields that aren't "framed" on the sides like our Ninjettes are. Unfortunately a lot of bikes have moved away from that recently.

If only there was a good used market locally.....

Oh well, that will be paid off in 5ish months.
I was going to pay mine off in the first few months (100% finance with ext. war.)...... BUT like happened, so 3 years later, I have one payment left!

Not the best financial policy, I know...

Meh, that's why I financed my 250 for 4 years. I knew I could pay it off with cash on hand now, or within a couple of months, but I wanted the lowest possible mandatory payment, because as you said, life happens and I wanted to be sure I had cash if needed.

I can buy that 650 right this second if I want... but I like having money.
