Knoxville Area--Need 2 Pregen cam followers
Hello!
I had the lash adjustment screws on two cam followers back out and vamoosh down the cam chain tube. I'm in the process of tearing the engine down to find the pieces and see if they caused any damage, but in the meantime I need to track down some replacements. So if you have two spare cam followers you're willing to part with for cheap or in exchange for a couple beers at the Knoxville watering hole of your choice hit me up! My profile still shows Nashville TN but I'm usually in Knoxville nowadays. Thanks!

I have some extra. What you want to pay for them shipping would be pretty cheap an I am not after a lot.

Those should be found in the clutch case, underneath the clutch assembly.

Quick question, looks like the only gasket I'll need to R&R clutch cover is the 11009 gasket? Need to order whatever I need this week.

@Motofool: I'm finally opening it up and now see that the spring retainers on one valve came off! I luckily have a few extra retainers laying around, is there a trick to keeping the valve closed while compressing the spring with the head still installed? I'm thinking some rope down the spark plug hole or something.
I'd like to avoid pulling the head if I can, just not really sure that's possible.

Use eye protection and plenty of clean rags to keep little pieces from flying away or into the engine via the cam chain well. Just for general information: http://www.dansmc.com/valve.htm If the old retainers are gone, you may want opening the clutch cavity and remove those potentially dangerous things, so they don't end up between the teeth of two gears.

You got super lucky. I would have just removed the head and used a valve spring compressor...
You may considering flushing everything clean cheapo oil. Not entirely sure about putting anything down the spark plug hole... clean is the name of the game here. |

It was a clothesline right out of the package so shouldn't have had anything too abrasive on it. I pulled the clutch cover to find the follower and sprayed WD40 all over in the clutch area and the crankcase, and all parts are now accounted for. When I get the timing set I'll probably throw some used oil in there so I can check compression while the motor is out on the bench (just to be sure I didn't bend that valve), that should get any other metal shards washed out of the motor, shouldn't it?
