The SV650 is back...kinda...
Suzuki has announced it will offer a 2016 SV650 naked model.

The "new" SV650 is more Gladius than SV, and has the boring styling to match. It's improved in a few ways, but still falls short of being a true SV650 in my mind. |

Looks better than the Gladius but still pretty bleh. I'll keep my FZ07.

Wow, I like the technical elements Suzuki has built into this new SV:
Example: Did you notice in the pictures that the coolant flow is routed down to where the Oil Filter (spin-on type) attaches? You can see the coolant lines running to and from the oil filter from the coolant pump. On its website Suzuki says: "The newly designed, high-efficiency radiator has an enlarged cooling fan for exceptional cooling capacity. To further control temperature, the engine is also fitted with a coolant-cooled, oil cooler that is compact and lightweight. Also, the engine has a bunch of friction reducing technology. Two spark plugs per cylinder (which I can't remember ever seeing on a 4-valve engine, how is there room in the combustion chamber for all of that?). |

Great news!
SVs are very popular track and race bikes with good aftermarket support built right in. Hopefully they haven't futzed too much with a proven platform and there will be a lot of carryover. Like the new trellis frame. It begs to be painted in a contrasting color to show it off. I've never ridden one, but it was the obvious next ride after the Ninjette. It makes power and torque nearly identical to my GSX-R750 up to about 7,000 rpm, which makes it a really great street bike. Had I not happened upon a crazy-good deal on my GSX-R, I'd probably be riding an SV today.

Fantastic bike, I prefer the xsr900 slightly right now but this bike is a step back in the right direction for suzuki after their gladius

The TL's had the oil filter cooler back in 2000, this is a bad pic, but you can see the screw on filter and the base is a cooler. the big problem is that it was pretty much on the centerline and the front jug exhaust was absolutely in the way. Every oil change was clean the header with something to get the oil off and then smoke coming up through the fairing and out the tree. Looks like they moved it off center line

I like the way the new one looks. I owned both the 650 and 1000 SV. Both excellent bikes. Fun at the track and even more fun in the mountains. Bullet proof.

I think I'd rather have an Fz-07. But I had a not so great experience with my SV650 sooooo...
I see more Gladius 650 than I do SV650. It's like the just put a headlight from the second gen SV on a cleaner looking Gladius. |

The SV was/is a knock out success for Suzuki and I applaud the effort to recapture that ...... however, I kinda am skeptical as it looks like they kept the Gladius frame and that was a major step back from the SV.

Def looks better with the blue wheels. The exhaust is hideous though.
