Installed my Sportisi Exhaust today
woohoo!
i installed my exhaust today. i bought it from craig (gamma). looks awesome, sounds crazy, in a good way. some minor issues, have to tighten the header bolts a bit more and the gasket where the canister mounts on the midpipe. also slight problem is that the tip of the tail part of the fairing on the right side touches the exhaust so it kind of melted already. ah well, i don't mind. i'll wait till it melts a bit more, then shave it off and paint it again. no one will know. im excited!

Manoj...glad you got her on. I hope you kept the midpipe insulation on to protect the mid lower fairing from heat. The very tip of the fairing end on mine got sizzled too but it only loses about a 1/2" max...sanded it off smooth and not noticeable. I get the feeling that Matt at Sportisi is running aftermarket fairings when he mentions there shouldn't be any problem with fairing "melt". Did you put a smear of RTV on the pipe/cannister joint before inserting/tightening? Also get a light on the header connection and ensure the crush washers are centered on the pipe, not shifting during the install. 12-14 ft/lbs of torque is all you need there or they will be pinched into nothingness.
Give us a report on how she pulled through the gears....I thought my bike ran rather well with it albeit I still couldn't get her to hit 13-14K rpms in 5th and 6th within a reasonable time at WOT. Only 1 shim and desnorkled mod though...what does yours do with 2 shims? Loud enough !! |

hey craig, yea thats what i was planning on doing with the fairings.
my friend is actually coming back tomorrow to do the midpipe/canister connection. we're going to buy that stuff tomorrow cuz it is leaking just a bit. and then also we are going to take the headers out, its just slightly bent, so we're going to bend them back a bit so it sits flush ya know. i love it so far, and i have taken it up to 5th gear no problems. we'll see how it does on the freeways. little popping on deceleration but its okay

Nice even thin layer of Copper HiTemp Permatex RTC on end of pipe should seal it..let it cure a few hours before "lighting" her up. Lay a line of RTV on the cannister inside connector on each of those slots that allow the pipe to contract when the clamp is tightened. If you don't feel any leak at the header connections you might want to not mess with trying to bend it back to "perfect" IMHO.
I had just a little popping on decel too...not enough for me to go through the KleenAir hose plugging to see if it could be completely eliminated. |

Permatex RTV can be found in any AdvanceAuto, AutoZone, Napa, PepBoys or the car section at WalMart/KMart. As mentioned you want the HI Temp Copper type....

Craig in regards to the touching I think it is largely due in part to that being the first of the header design I haven't had any complaints from the other owners (if I did I would be raising hell with sportisi) of VR6's and your right I have aftermarket fairings.
