Impaled in the leg through a boot; I get the feeling that the chances of this happening must be pretty low. I expect you've got more chance of being one of the small number of people that are attacked by sharks each year.

Normally with an impalement, you do want to leave it in until it can be carefully pulled and treatment done if it was holding something vital shut. You can do as much damage pulling it out as it did going in, if you're not careful and know what you're doing.
I guess this one was too big to really function with it still in. I probably would have pulled it, too, even knowing it's likely a bad idea. |

that's crazy, been riding dirt for years with lots of friends, never had anything remotely close to this happen to me or them.
I've taken some branches to the leg, shoulder, and even chest, never had much more than a scratch.
