Yeah but the reason they stuck with the same 250 ninja for so many years was because there was no competition. Now that that has changed I can see them making improvements to remain on top of the game. Time will tell.

Young Machine is notorious for photoshopping stuff that people would love to see, which never winds up being real. Pure click-bait. Move along, nothing to see here.
Yes, the 300 will get refreshed at some point. No, it will not look like that. It's July. Do you REALLY think that we're getting a first glimpse of a 2018 model here?

If Kawasaki is the first to get a new generation 300 out then they could potentially reap a heap of sales. I would buy one if the specs met my expectations. I'm currently on a CBR300 but looking to upgrade. There's rumor of a new CBR for 2018 too but if Honda drags the chain then I could easily be on a Kwaka next year. I'd be wanting to see features like USD forks, aluminium swing arm, more suspension adjustment, more HP and maybe cc's even? Not so bothered about Ride By Wire or riding modes. Hopefully we hear something between now and the motorcycle shows later in the year (Intermot, EICMA etc) where new models are often first shown. I'll def share anything I hear! |

If history is an indicator of the future, they have already started working on an update to compete with the KTM and R3

If I was going to go bigger I would probably go for the likes of the Ninja 650 or FZ/MT-07 rather than a super sports 600 as I do a lot of inter-provincial riding and need a slightly less racy riding position and more compliant suspension.
I like the 300's as they are cheaper to run and purchase plus it's great fun to thrash the be-jesus out of a small bike! It's a pity they stopped making the 400cc fours in the mid nineties as I believe they were the ideal size. I had a GSXR400 for a while and loved it. |

I just want a lightweight SS with usable power. I tried a 750 and its just way too much for the street, the weight didn't really bother me but I do like my bikes smaller. I was looking at a Honda NSR in the bay area though/

Haven't heard too much lately, but the Rumor Mill was churning a while ago about a CBR250RR 2-cyl that might make it to the states as a 300 or 350. It was shown with upgraded components like USD forks and an aluminum swingarm.
It would be fun if the major manufactures all wanted to own the 300 class, and were prepared to step it up. Not sure that's going to happen, but it would be neat. CBR250RR article and video - http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2016/...n-early-tests/ |

There is a CBR300R that came out in 2014 and is still a current model (I ride one), but there is no such bike as a CBR300RR.
There is a CBR250RR however as shown in jkv45's link that was released late last year, firstly in Indonesia (where they are made) and more recently Japan. Sorry to be an accurist. |

Nah, your absolutely right, it's just a stroked version of the CBR250R single that came out in 2011. Fairly old tech and only 286cc, not even the full 300. I can get 100MPH out of mine on a good day as I have a really good PTW ratio. I stripped 30lbs of crap off the bike and I only weigh 130 myself. |

Weight is primarily for acceleration. Top-speed is all about aero-drag and punching the smallest tunnel through the air possible. I've found removing mirrors, getting into tight-tuck with hands behind the screen (use pinkie-finger to keep gas pinned), can really improve top-speed.

There's still heaps of them around for sale 2nd hand. I've not long sold my '94 GSXR 400 - 15K redline, 59HP, 169kg (372lb) dry weight. A real hoot to ride, put a smile on my face every time I threw a leg over it. The sound of the 4 into 1 coming on song as the needle swung past the 10K mark was infectious! I only sold it to fund another bike purchase but I'm sure I will have another 250 or 400 four in my garage at some stage. Really keen to get a Honda VFR400 as I've heard the engine is a gem. |

My brother has a VFR400. Single-sided swingarm is pretty trick looking. The gear-driven cams sounds really smooth!
Hmmm, I see a 1995 CBR250RR for sale near me... hmmmm.... getting parts for it in U.S. is gonna be tough... |

I wonder about the engine though.. As we know, the Ninja 300's engine is based on the Ninja 250. I don't think there's much of a room to stroke/bore up to 400cc. |

I'm erring towards it being either a completely new engine or a sleeved down 650, which sounds like the cheaper option of the two.

Yeah, stroking and boring out existing 250 with new sleeves only gets you up to about 344-350cc.

http://www.kawasaki-motors.com/mc/lineup/ninja400/ Kawasaki Ninja 400 399cc Parallel Twin Bore: 68.4mm Stroke: 54.3mm Compression Ratio: 11:1 Power: 32kW (43hp) @9,500rpm Torque: 44Nm (32.45lb-ft) @7,500rpm Now you might hope Kawasaki will invest time & money to develop brand new engine from scratch, but no, you're wrong. This is an entry level category and cost-efficiency of developing a bike like this is very important. It will be an 43hp engine from Ninja 400, which is a sleeved down version of Ninja 650 we have in USA/Canada. |

It's hard to tell but the rear subframe looks different from the 400 from Japan but it looks like it has the same crappy forks the ninja 250/300 has.

As was already written, the 300 cannot RELIABLY be enlarged to a true 400cc without serious issues being overcame. FYI the R3 is actually 321cc, the is KTM is 372cc, and the current Ninja is 296cc. There also is a BMW "310" coming out that is actually 313cc.
I think its entirely possible the "400" would be closer to 375cc with a lot of marketing fluff to come. |

Because it's a single. That doesn't mean it's not a cool bike. It just sounds lousy.
