I'm almost there, my dream has nearly come true!!
Hey guys,
First of all, I would like to thank Alex for creating such a great site and Kkim for inviting me here months ago. I would also like to thank everyone who has contributed to this wonderful website, albeit small or large it has helped me tremendously in my search for answers! I would also like to thank my mum for her sometimes unwilling support (lol), and for her financing, love you mum Now, people who do know me, I am a recently turned 18 year old kid from Australia. I joined this site in seek for answers about the awesome (and soon to be future) bike. I have been reading up heaps, and I mean heaps about anything and everything relating to the Ninjette, riding, farkles, mods, gear and even random stuff. After a long wait for my Year 12 (final years of highschool going into Uni) exams to be over, I went ahead and booked for my Motorcycle Learner's Permit. It was a full day course where they teach people with little or nil experience on a bike. I arrived there nervous as hell, this was my first time sitting on a bike. After an educational video and some talking, we went and sat on the bikes, learned how to start it, stop it, get into 1st, get into neutral, and a whole heap of other stuff which I can't really be bothered explaining At the end of the day, we had to do a test which consisted of successfully starting the bike, taking off, making a left turn (with indicators on) and breaking with the front wheel in a box. Then we had to travel in a 10 metre box in a straight line for a minimum of 10 seconds (testing our bike control). Then we had to do 2 right turns and do an emergency stop within a certain amount of space. I passed with flying colours, the testers were very happy with me cause I was the only person in the group who had never touched a bike and not even driven a manual car. I now could legally ride a bike ... but there was no way in hell I was riding without PROPER gear! Thats where today came in, my mother and I went to a local bike shop -- which was a kind of outlet shop which had very low low prices . The salesperson there helped me out heaps in picking out a whole outfit. I ... well my mother did have a budget of around $1,000. I mananged to spend exactly that! I got myself a (unsure about models); -HJC helmet with mirrored visor -Teknic Mesh jacket -Sartso Riding jeans (kevlar in ass and knees) -Leather vented gloves -Rjays full length boots I was planning on getting knee pads, but the ones there were abit bulky so I'm going to try elsewhere. Well thats pretty much it, my dream of owning a bike and riding is almost there. This Thursday I'm going to check out a bike, black Kawasaki 250R, 24xxkm on the clock, for $6,000. Have been reading alot on evaluating 2nd hand bikes and what to check for, so hopefully it all goes well. Well, I would like to thank everyone, for everything, the helpful threads/post and for taking the time to read this gigantic slab of writing I put out (sorry couldn't help it, I'M DAM EXCITED AND I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT! So soon to be a Ninjette owner, can't bloody wait. Hope you all the best, and safe riding! Mike.

Congatulations Mike on passing the riding course and for having the good sense of buying riding gear before you bought the bike. Too many people buy the bike first and then buy the gear.

Yeah cheers fellas, I thought it was a good idea to get the gear also so I could get comfortable in them (am currently wearing the helmet and boots as we speak), and so I could ride the bike home myself
WOO IM EXCITED!

Well done sir! I've been wondering when exactly you were going to finally get your bike. You've been building to this for a long time. Way to stick with it! Oh, and that's the same helmet I got first, including the mirrored visor. Very comfortable, but wind noise on that one can be a bit of a pain. Regardless of that, I'm glad to see you're almost there. Keep us posted!

Most definitly, probably not going to wear them when I'm practising in carparks as of yet, but will definitly wear them when I hit the streets. I've seen the stats, bloody horrifying -- I'd like to keep my hearing thanks

Congrats buddy. I know youve been waiting a long time and have already done a lot of research on this bike...hell youve been an acting member of this site for a while. I could probably tell you what mod you'll do first just from your posts...remove the front reflectors haha. Everyone should go about buying a bike the way you did. Do a lot of research on the bike and talk with people who have them, get permit, get gear, THEN get bike. Good job!

To tell you the truth, I don't really have a preference on colours, I reckon the Ninjette looks beautiful in all colours and according to some people, faster in some colours aswell.
The bike I'm checking out tomorrow is Black, and theres another one that is Blue.

Little update
The $6,000 Black Ninja that I was going to check out tomorrow has been sold, I'm a bit shattered, but guess its back to the drawing boards.

Its a good thing there are so many low mile/kilo ninjettes out there, but at the same time its bad that so many people get rid of the 250 without even braking it in.

Okay, so a little update.
Went to check out a 2nd hand bike, had to drive like half way across the state and got lost a few times, even though it was only meant to be a 40min drive ended up being 1 hour+. Got there, talked to the guy, his first impression was a crappy one... he was sitting there with his mate smoking and drinking beer, with no shoes on. Saw a couple of his cars, pretty smashed and battered. Was talking and instead of the $6500 asking price, he wanted $6700?!?!?! He should of told us beforehand, but he waited for us to come ... bloody waste of my time and my mums. So, heres the good part. On the drive back after letting both of tempers cool off, my mum ask, "So, how much is a new bike?", I answer "around $7500-8000". Mum looks at me, freezes, and says "YOU SHOULD OF TOLD ME THAT EARLIER, ILL JUST GET YOU A NEW BIKE!". I didn't know what to say... so I was just like "Yeah, Okay.." So next week, my mum and I are going to the local dealerships and checking a brand new (either 09 or 10 model) and going to be walking away with a brand new spanker! Being that it is new, I'm undecided on which colour now, cause I now have all the colour choices at my disposel. Decisions, decisions...

Black, get the front brake lever, clutch lever, footpegs, gear shift/rear brake, and rims painted blue and get a custom blue seat. My 250R's done that way, but purple instead of blue. 650R's got the blue and it looks better.

Years ago (high school in the early 80s) a friend of mine wanted an early 70s camaro Z28. Went with him and his dad to see one that seemed good in the paper. We get there on a saturday morning and the seller and his 2 buds are drinking. One idiot keeps saying "I seen this car smoke the tires". Pretended to check the car out and left with a "ok call you later".

If sellers want to sell their item, they should present themself and the item in its best possible way.
Went to the dealers today to window shop since it was closed, saw a black, blue and green one. I'm leaning towards blue, but black isn't far behind.

Green is easier to see. Whenever I'm in my car and a green bike is behind me I always find myself asking "What the hell was that green thing I just saw...?". Get green.
Edit: Oh and Ninja Turtles are green.....that one is self explanatory. |
