I wish Japanese manufacturers made something like this.
A small displacement mail-order Taiwanese adventure bike. I wish Japanese manufaturers made something like this, complete with the luggage, crash bars and skid plate. !3895.jpg

Very nice looking bike.
Forget the Japanese. I wish America made sport bikes. Have we forgotten the Buel bikes? |

Maybe I should rephrase it....
I wish the MAJOR motorcycle manufacturers, those with an actual DEALER NETWORK in the U.S., made something like this. |

I wonder how difficult it'd be to shoehorn in a Yamondasaki engine in for reliability and parts/service availability? More or less than the cost of taking a typical Japanese dual sport and outfitting it like this?
That said, the few reviews I've read have been good. Don't know that anyone's done any major distance tours on one yet, though. I think I'd go the dual sport plus ammo cans route.

I Read a real adventure review on that a while back. I guess it was falling apart after some actual riding

Depends on what a real adventure ride is though... YMMV... Thanks. I was quite interested by the RX3, but since the rate exchange is so poor for our Canadian currency, it's not worth it right now... So I'm waiting to see if we'll ever see a KTM 390 Adventure a Suzuki V-Strom 250, a Kawasaki KLR 300, a BMW G310 GS or why not a Africa Single 300... |

This was my weekend last weekend, on a 600 pound bike, and on a road everyone said I shouldn't be on.
I can't seem to find that review now, I'll keep looking.

Really??? Most Japanese workers are also underpaid and overworked. How do you think they can sell there products to us cheaper than we can make them? Hence the reason why we have a trade imbalance.

idk, but i worked many places, most ppl dont like their jobs for various reasons, which leads to lazyness. most americans dont take pride in their work, they show up to a job because they have to, and go through the motions while thinking "this job sucks, cant wait to get off". lol

CSC announced they have an RX3S (380cc twin) and an RX4 (450cc single) for CARB and EPA certification, and general evaluation.
A spec chart from the blog. Some of the figures are known to be wrong (dimensions are nuts) but there's lots of interesting data here: Source: http://californiascooterco.com/blog/ The RX3S is interesting; I'm still trying to work out where the RX4 fits as it's more power and torque but only a bit, but significantly heavier. I own a TT250 and it's oustanding value for money. Well made and easy to work on. |

Interesting. I was thinking of an RX3 when it came out and ultimately came to the decision "I'd rather buy a 10 year old KLR 650 for less money, more power, more reliability and 10000% more parts availability."
Still, I like what they are doing, and I like any concept that gets rid of dealer networks - just as long as every single part I need is readily available. We'll see what the price will be on these new bikes. Now, on to another subject which I don't know I want to even bring up - in today's political climate, something with a Chinese country of origin may be taxed all to hell. I don't know if these full under that. But I would probably shy away until the political issues stabilize.

I have wondered....
I have a love for Triumph engines for ages. I don't know why. Maybe it is simply how they look and sound. Throw that sucker into a dual sport frame and put on slightly more street worthy tires, and I honestly feel I'd be in heaven.

i dont care what your job is, you should do it the best you can. i used to wash cars for a living. i took pride in what i did. i take pride in everything i do. when i park a truck on the ready line, my name is on that ticket, the customer knows what mechanic did the work. and i strive to make my work at least as good as oem, and better when i see flaws in factory work.
the philosophy that a worker should get paid to do better is cancerous and false. A worker gets rewarded for good work, not bribed to do better. that said, my shop has been hiring for four years straight. we cannot find young people that are willing to WORK for a living. i make close to $30 an hr, and i have a high school education. in a day when a mechanic can turn $100,000 a year bring home, and this generation today is too sorry and lazy to work. where i came from, if you dont work, you dont eat. as long as you support a man, he has no reason to strive to do better for himself. i go to work because i have to, who would volunteer to work most of their lives away if they did not have to??? thanks to bad gov't in the 90's we have lost 95% of our factory jobs, if not more. used to be able to get out of high school and work a factory job that you could support a family on, and have enough to buy a little boat and a new car for the missus to drive. minimum wage is not supposed to support a family, its called an entry level job for a reason. the city i work in is a relic of a bygone era of factories and manufacturing. its a shell of the might it had through the 1920's up to the 1970's. been in decline since. the factories are gone, the cities tax base is gone, and when its gone, you'll never get it back.. |

I agree with @gantt.
People don't take pride in their work anymore. It's just a paycheck. I've always done my job to the best of my ability no matter if it was washing cars, stocking shelves, cleaning houses, whatever. As a manager, I've been trying to hire people for a year and a half but nobody wants to work. The few that are willing to do physical work think it should pay $15 an hour or more. Sorry, that's not how it works. You don't get that kind of pay for a job that a trained monkey could do.

I wouldn't expect a trained monkey to take pride in it's work. I'm saying that people shouldn't expect higher pay for jobs that require no skill.

People don't even take pride in them selves anymore. Wearing pj's to the grocery store? Seems like, in my side of the world 75% of people are just sloppy lazy messes.

It is like my niece. She is 16 and wants to work at a boutique. I'm like, "So do a ton of other girls your age."
She refuses to work at any place like fast food, grocery stores, even a juicing place. She is really picky. I guess it is all about the label more than anything. "Oh, you work at McDonald's? Well, I work here." I'll admit, I didn't take much pride in my old job years ago. I think it was mainly because I wasn't happy with the whole situation there. Lots of uppers were holding back the lower tier because the upper tier didn't want competition for "their" jobs. I was passed over for several jobs, even though I was more qualified than others, all because they knew if I got promoted into a higher level, that I have more education and would be better qualified for future jobs they would bid for. Lots of that at my old job. So nope, no real pride there. However, now I'm seeking IT jobs, I'm really eager to get out there and work. To do something I enjoy. I really enjoy computers and stuff like that, so it will be a great change of environment.

i saw our town was hiring a city worker. full time, 15 miles from his house, starting at $10/HR, paid week off plus paid holidays. insurance... hell no, he didn't even respond to my text. and he gets jealous because of what little i have accumulated, through hard work and saving my money. i buy cheap cars, never had a payment over 140 bucks a month. not like i have new expensive stuff. i drive a 22 year old car, wife is in a 13 year old car, my truck is 13. i buy smart, for the long haul. i take care of what i have, and fix it as it breaks. he goes for flashy, and instant gratification. if he has to save for it, the plan stops at that moment. i doubt he has saved more than enough for a carton of cigs in his life.. |

I'm fine with people having no pride as long as they get the job done and treat colleagues politely. To many workers, including myself, a job is just there to earn money. Not that I hate my company; I'd simply rather enjoy my personal life outside of work than overthinking what work really means in my life. Personally, I like my job, although I won't say I have much pride at work. However, I take pride in doing honest work and live within my means. I can't say people are wrong when they have no pride in a job that doesn't mean much but a paycheck. |

Work ethics discussion aside, the main reason that Japanese Big Four do not market small displacement adventure type bikes in the US is because the lack of demand.
I think the idea that "bigger is better" still is quite popular in the US market. Most people still want big pickup trucks, supersized fries, XXL drinks and large engine displacement on motorcycles. Until gas prices go up significantly, demand for small engine vehicle is not likely to increase enough for the Japanese Big Four to start producing them or market them with significant effort. I bought a Chinese 250cc scooter back in 2008, the last time gas prices went up significantly. $1499 shipped to my driveway in a crate. Likely, it was never put together with great pride, but the little scooter still runs nicely to this day, with 18k miles on odometer. I never had to clean the carb, I stopped changing the sparkplug and adjusting the valves 3 years ago, change the oil, check the drivebelt annually, beyond that add fuel, air to tires and just run it. With my limited mechanical knowledge, I have no fear of getting a bike or scooter shipped to me in a crate, having to take it apart to prep it before riding it. Personally, I think I'm careful enough to put it back together and fasten everything to safely standards of my own. I don't expect these Chinese bikes to perform like large displacement Japanese built machines, and I don't compare them neither. I operate the Chinese machines well within their limits and my expectations. So far, with my experience, they have been reliable machines, easy to operate, very little to go wrong and easy to work with. I don't doubt that Zongshen bikes can be much different. |
