Replacing front sprocket only
I want to replace the stock 14T sprocket with a new 15T sprocket. But I want to keep the original chain and rear sprocket. The bike only has 3500 miles on it (2004). Will this cause a wear problem with the chain long term? On my other chain drive bikes I have replaced the front and rear along with a new chain when they're worn out. Thanks.

I'm gonna say you will be fine. Yes normally if you are replacing a worn part in the drive-line, you would replace the chain and both sprockets.

When you need to change the chain and rear sprocket later, i would throw in a new front sprocket again. But that is many many miles away. |

That's what I thought. Thanks for the fast replies. The front sprocket was only $16 so when the chain is worn out I'll get a new front and rear.

I replaced my Wifes Front Sprocket with a 15T as well, I did it because of the RPM's she was getting in the lower gears. Guess what, I cut the RPM's in half and did not effect the gas milage or the handling of the bike at all now it rides as it should. As for the Chain No ya dont need to replae it YET. But some day you may wish to but as stated before not to worry now.

No, you cut the RPM's to 14/15ths of what they were before.
