Suggestions on a good men's leather jacket?
My hubby's B-Day's coming up, and I wanted to buy him a good leather riding jacket. I looked at a few but I'm not sure what to look for in a quality leather jacket. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Can't go wrong with Alpinestars or Dainese. What kind of price range are you looking at?

I have a Scorpion All-in jacket in black naked. I love it... It's a fairly classic yet modern looking jacket. One thing to consider is that it's fairly thick so when you pick it up and/or put it on, you really feel like your draped in armor. Got mine on closeout for $200.

Alpinestars, icon, shift, s&s, scorpion are all some good legit options. What other gear does he have? Most have a certain brand they like/use. Sportbiketrack gear has a nice sell on a speed and strength leather jacket for 165 right now. If u don't buy a jacket on sale expect to pay 300-400.

High end leather jackets are really profess quality, IMHO. But, if you feel you need the best, then a jacket is only half of what you should be buying...gotta get pants too ?
3 years ago I bought a full fabric suit for $130...armor, comfy from maybe 60 -80 degrees, very water resistant but no pockets ( PITA). The full suit cost me.. half of what a nice jacket would cost. I know leahter is somehwat more slide resistant and really looks prettier and can be worn when not on the bike ( as opposed to a full suit)...but it costs a lot |

If it's at all possible, look into getting him a custom tailored leather jacket (or 2-piece),with good CE armour, from a reputable shop in your area. If you want this to be a surprise...maybe measure him while he sleeps or something. If off the shelf is the only answer you're looking for...the suggestions posted above are good. I'll also throw in Vanson, if you want to get super fancy hehe. |

I'm prepared to spend $500+ for it, as long as it's good quality. He won't wear leather pants but he's been looking at leather jackets for a while now. I know he likes Alpinestar and I'm a Dainese fan, but I've noticed there a limited selection on Dainese jackets so I was looking at other good brands as well.

I like the Icon Motorhead or the Scorpion All-In on the guys I'll turn my head for on the street. (which is saying somethin).... the others I just keep on movin cuz they just look too overdone with the "look at me" line of jackets.
Gettin the right jacket for him depends on how often you can stand lookin at the girls, lookin at him... |

You all have given me definitely more things / places to look into!
Flashmonkey, I'd love to give him a custom tailored jacket, I think that's a great idea, but time is ticking and I only have one month left before his B-Day and I'm not sure how long that's going to take, also considering I have no idea where to go for that? But I will consider it for the future for sure! |

Despite the generally negative reviews they get, I'd say that icon gear is pretty good for street riding. My only beef with their jackets is that they're cut funny...and tend to ride up on me when I'm on the bike, expsoing my midriff. That's not cool man. Not even close!

He usually wears Large.. I'll have to check the Scorpion size chart though since some brands fit differently.

I have an Alpinestars RC-1 that I absolutely love.. its around $500 retail, but you can probably find it cheaper if you look around. I don't regret spending that money at all, its a wonderful jacket. I even got the Alpinestars track pants and they zip up with the jacket.

I got one of these about 2 months ago and really like it. It does come with a liner, but the liner does not have sleeves. I've worn mine with a light sweatshirt underneath it and it worked well. |

I know he would have liked the black one better, but my excuse will be that with the silver one he'll be more visible Temperatures here usually never drop below 45 either even in the middle of winter at night, so he might not need the liner but it's good to have in case we travel somewhere else with colder temperatures. About the armor.. the back one is a pad, right? I suppose I can buy him the upgrade to a CE one? |

Good leather, well ventilated and with CE approved shoulder and elbow pads. Foam back protection, locking arm zippers and a reflective strip across back and arms. Works well in warm weather. Very comfortable. |

He'll be ok until his B-Day
He wears a Frank Thomas leather/mesh jacket right now. He needed a full leather jacket though, and btw the Scorpion All-In looks gooood!! Even the silver one! I honestly couldn't tell from the pictures on the website, but this jacket rocks, I'm happy I got it and I'm sure he'll like it also! But yes.. he'll have to wait |

When you give it to him you should dance around in it...and showcase how all the zippers work and such.
