So, it's already been a pretty ripe day..
As the title says its been a pretty ripe day from the beginning.
I didn't do so well on my college math course. So, I failed. having pretty dumb Ex-girlfriend problem and to top it off it poured like hell and my $189 ICS100 book got all soak from the rain... So, I come after a long and pretty much stressful day... Jump on the computer and about to play some Silent Hill 3. Right when I was about to start it up. My soon to be step mom walks into my room and says "Umm, Daniel...I backed into your bike. I am so sorry!" The amount of rage rushing through me was indescribable. At this point you expect me to say "I blew up" or "I went apeshit". No, I didn't. She stared at me with that "oh sh*t face" you know? When your teeth is showing, eyebrows are up and your neck looks like its about disconnect from the shoulders? I silently stoop up, grabbed my flashlight, and went outside. Now before I start describing the damage. I just wanna go over a few things. The bike already has some minor scratches and cracks on the fairings. Also, I recent dropped over $600-700 in parts...I also overhauled the handlebars when I did my brake pads and rotor overhaul. The handle bars were bent from the previous owner. (Note: Parts were OEM.) Now for the damage. The new handlebar only 5 days old on the right is now bent.. and the brand new bar end I bought is looking like how it did before. The new brake lever has deep scrapes and is bent.. both right turn signals are hanging off. The rear brake pedal is mangled and the upper fairing in the top right corner is split and cracked even more... The front wheel fairing has a star shaped crack on the top and the right muffler is dented in... Words can't describe how angry I am. I am so angry I am loony..Did I mention that after I looked at the damage I turned to my brother and step mom and started historically laughing? So, here I am. Locked in my room. Lights off. Typing on my smartphone. Trying different ways to vent. and part of a club. Pictures will be up tomorrow. Night guys. |

WTF, claim that sht. If she's not going to pay her insurance will. Hell, it would have been figured out within the first two seconds, "you gonna pay? No? Ok...-dials cops for police report-"

I was cringing and biting my lip most the way through reading that. That sucks so bad Daneil!! If it's possible, I agree with the other people here: claim it off her insurance.
Oh: maths is hard! Don't beat yourself up about it. When I was in college I chose to study maths and a couple other subjects. From doing the first week of the maths course I realised how difficult it was going to be so I immediately dropped the course and switched to doing Business Studies instead. The business studies course was incredibly boring, but it was a millions times easier than the maths. Oh: and although I'm advocating giving up on maths, I don't advocate giving up on bikes... keep at it |

Sounds like one of those days… least things should get better from there on out.
Anyways, not exploding into some rage fueled fit was definitely the right thing to do, even if that must have been borderline impossible at the time. Reading it at first I almost felt sorry for your mom, sh** happens and she seemed to honestly regret…after reading that she’s not gonna pay though, well that really changes things. Advice: Try to calm down by either sleeping on it or hitting the gym etc. then go have a serious talk with your parents. Running over someone’s bike and then just shrugging it off as if it’s not any of your concern is just wrong, even more so if the bike belonged to a family member! As for the other stuff, it’s part of being a student ^^ we all go through it and on that note, I should stop procrastinating my writing assignments…

Dang, rough day. While I personally believe she should pay for it you probably don't want to get in a legal fight with your mom either. That's a real Catch 22 right there.

I'm going to have to agree with Justin on this one, either she pays it or claim it. There is no reason that her wrong doing should be paid for by you and she have no consequence for her action.

I agree with either she pays for the damage or file an insurance claim. I would still have a report filed either way.

Tough day
Quote:
College tests can be frustrating..it will pass once you pass college Ex-girlfriends can be equally frustrating...much easier ways to make you feel better about this too (Date more) (I've been to Hawaii, you have pleeenty of choices) You have 1 Mom..assuming you are blessed, you'll have several bikes. You'll laugh at today one day (just not today) Go about this the way a grown man would go about it 1) No such thing as a bad day...just temporary tough times. Don't let it affect your whole day if you can. 2) Hug your moms, tell her its ok, hit the bag, weights, get out and run and come up with a game plan to fix the bike. Take it easy like you have been.. You'll catch a string of better breaks most likely...You'll find yourself in a much better situation. Mahalo bruh! |

I believe the issue here is personal responsibility. I have purchased and maintained insurance on my own for every vehicle I have driven/rode since obtaining my drivers license 17 years ago. Yeah it sucked paying high premiums on my own policy as a new driver but it taught responsibility. |

If I read correctly, she's your step-mom, right?
F*ck it. Take it through insurance.

Step mom huh?
make her pay. Insurance or out of pocket she damaged your property and you are entitled to restitution. Talk to your dad about it first though, if he decides to back her and not help you get it fixed things can become very difficult for you if you go through insurance. |

I probably would have done the same thing minus the laughing. Though I would make her pay for it; if she refuses I'd most definitely file a claim. IDC who you are, if you hit my bike / car / wtf ever and damage it; I will not be the one paying for it. If I were in your position and she refused to pay for it then I'd call the police and your insurance company NOW. I can't believe she has the nerve to not offer to pay for it. What a bitch of a future stepmom. Just my .

Get a fork lift and flip her car, it won't solve anything, but if it were me I would feel much better.

Same as others, assuming your insurance covers it, claim it. The reason people often don't do that to family/friends is that they don't try and **** us over. If she isn't willing to help pay, then claim it. It's not being a jerk to (soon to be) family, it's just the way things are done.

On a serious note, we all have extremely bad days once in a while. Best way to look at it is that what happened, happened, and being upset won't change that. Time to look forward to the next test, the new future girlfriend, and how you want to get your bike fixed. Maybe you should just play some Silent Hill and forget about the real world for a bit. The virtual world of video games always helps me |

Doesnt sound like the damage is too bad. Where did you park? Why would she have to "back" into it to park?
If you're angry and willing to sink into vengence, I think you should get some 2-part epoxy and seal all car doors shut so she'll have to climb through windows or through the trunk to get to the drivers seat. I've been wanting to do this to someone but nobody has angered me enough as of yet to make it worth the trouble. If you can manage a straight face, just deny you have any idea what she's talking about. On a more serious note, what subject in math? There are various websites with fantastic lectures that I've found very helpful when I needed more clarification. |

Trouble in paradise?
Bikes can be fixed, at least you are not dealing with snow that bring down trees that go through your roof and cut powerlines. |
