Glad you're okay. I was honestly confused at the first post. It was some guys story of crashing, but the avatar on the left side was Alex's... was he quoting someone else? No broken bones, that's a relief. Take a happy pill for me and hope you heal up quick.
Alex, I know you run this site, but you need to take responsibility for your actions and explain to us the whole story of how Jiggles caused you to crash. Let's not make excuses for the guy. He screwed up. Your concern for his reputation is admirable, but just level with us and tell us how it really happened. Covering this up will not help him learn from his mistakes! |

This morning was not a happy time. As expected, 2 days afterwards turned out to be the worst pain so far for all of the soft tissue injury. On a 4-hr happy pill rotation, and even those didn't help at 6 AM when trying to rotate out of bed. Feeling a little better now, but these are not the moments in motorcycling that one remembers fondly. I hope things start to ease later in the day, and are on an upward curve from here, because if not, this site is going to have a whiny admin for the foreseeable future. DAMN!! By the looks of your gear, you probably got off lucky!! Soft tissue injuries are the worst though, almost better off with a break. I was hit from behind on my bike in July 2011, did four months of therapy, and in all honesty, some days I still find my back sore between the shoulder blades, and I get a little crick in my neck when I turn my head to the right. Unfortunately, sometimes soft tissue injuries just never fully heal, I hope that isn't the case for you. I feel for you Alex, get well soon.

One of the more experienced folks tending to me on scene asked if I had been knocked out, and then went through the standard list of questions to judge how loopy I was. (what day is it, where are you, what were we doing, etc.) It's one way to get some information on how likely or how serious a concussion might be.
My first response to him was not to worry, I don't think that my helmet even hit the ground. I may have been a little off. Just a data point to keep in mind that those involved in the accident might not have the best viewpoint or provide accurate information, and not necessarily to take all of their responses at face value. Thinking back on it many times over the past few days, I think it's likely I was knocked out at least momentarily. I have no memory loss, and remember right up until the point of the accident, and remember exactly what I was doing and what caused the bike to get squirrelly. But I also remember lying on the pavement face-down right afterwards, wondering what happened, why am I lying here, this can't be good, why can't I breathe, where is the bike, etc. Someone had reached me just moments after the accident, and at that point I was able to answer their questions and was able to scooch myself off the road under my own power, so if I was out, the length of time was quite short.

I thought I hadn't gotten knocked out when I broke my back rock climbing, you simply don't believe people when they say you were out for minutes.
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Would you consider Kevlar gear given how hungry the road is for nylon? |

The only time I biffed it at the racetrack was at much higher speeds than what I did to myself on Tuesday. I was near redline in 2nd on an R6 with stock gearing, so right at 100 mph, when I threw myself down the hill past turn 9 at Thunderhill. I remember every twist and turn of that one all the way down, but it was less violent than the recent one.

Condition update. Percoset + Advil = win. I hadn't been using any iboprofen, and it almost immediately helped the swelling and pain due to it. The Perco has oxy + acetaminophen, but nothing for swelling. Only took 400mg of Advil, and it has made a huge difference so far.

Try a Jiggles goodnight cocktail 1. Drink a beer 2. Take a Percocet 3. Drink a beer 4. Knock the **** out 5. Wake up and pray you don't have liver damage

I don't think acetaminophen does anything for swelling, but it does a reasonable job on the pain itself (and headaches). My wife suggested the advil in addition, so after a google search confirming I wasn't going to die (of this, anyway), I gave it a shot.

Spoke with the BMW shop a short while ago, they estimate $25K+ in repair costs. It appears that I will be new bike shopping in the near future.
