Thanks! I've been trying to decide what rearset to get, 'cause that's what I'm getting after I get my exhaust (from Area P).
Just to elaborate a bit more, the woodcraft website states that the rearset you have shown above will fit all years (1988 - 2009). So does that mean that any rearset that fits the 09 will also fit the 07? I'm hoping so because I want to get this one: Edit -- DOH! The link I posted here didn't work. 2 posts down has a new one! |

This one doesn't, but the woodcraft one does. I was going off of that and the assumption that, if the bolt holes for the woodcraft are lined up for both models, the others would be too. If on rearset fits on the 07 and the 08, shouldn't others that fit the 08 fit the 07? Correct me if I'm wrong. This is why I asked. Don't wanna get something that doesn't fit!

good point. I don't know the answer, so I'll let someone who has more direct knowledge answer that one.

I've been considering going to my local Kawi dealer and measuring the spaces and angles between the bolts on one of the '09s they have there, then comparing it to mine. Think they'd get mad?

no... just tell them you're considering buying the 09 to replace your pregen and they'll let you do whatever you want.

lol this is true. Especially at my dealership! This place loves to pump prices up as high as possible! I usually hate going there at all, but they're almost the only place around that has good gear and such.

Definitely gonna try that. While I'm checking the distances/angles, I'll ask them how much it costs. How much did you guys who got your 08 or 09 ninjette pay for them off the showroom floor? I wanna know how much this place tries to cheat me for this year ninjette. (They had a used 07 ninjette and were asking $3900 for it!!! It was like new condition and only had 1700 miles on it, but that was close to the end of 08!)

They seem to be exactly the same in distance, angle, and bolts used to secure them (except for the top one that dissappears on the 08+). Only thing I need to worry about now is clearance on the older bikes. Fairings and exhaust are still different!

hm..based on this picture
I don't think it's the same. Angle of the four main bolts. Look at your bike. The right side.

FWIW my biz patner and are finishing up fitting rearset riser brackets for the 88-07's. The 08+ fitment is different from the 07 and earlier bikes and I haven't found anyone that makes rearsets (or riser plates) for the older model.

I agree. I may be wrong on this, but don't those back two bolts just hold the brake resevior (or however you spell that)? I don't know. If it is that different, how can Woodcraft claim that theirs fits both? Confusion!
Also, isn't the angle at the front of the bracket, where they're bolted to the frame have a different angle anyway between the two bikes? (aka the pregens angle is a little more backward at the top bolt) So, in theory, it would still work, the rearset would just be tilted back a little more on a pregen. I'm almost sounding crazy to myself, but when I compare the two it looks the same to me. |

You're right about the rear brake master cylinder mounting (looks like a reservoir). I'd be pleasantly surprised to see the 08+ rearsets fit on the old model. The old model rearsets are different between the left and the right sides (spacing and angle) and the distance the shift rod would have to reach I am sure is different too.
What the heck, somebody can go buy a set for the new model and try to make them work on the old gen. Any takers? |

I'd do it if I thought I could get rid of it afterwards. I'd probably post it on here at a discount to try and get some of my money back if it doesn't work. Anybody think they'd want a rearset?

That might work.... And it would definitely be cheaper than buying a whole new rearset just to find out it doesn't work. But I think my parents might freak if I gave my address out to someone online. No offense or anything. I might try ordering a spare bracket someone has on ebay that they're selling for cheap. It's a little different that way, both because the stuff is actually mailed to my dad, and because there's no contact before unless there are questions. Thanks for the offer though.

It would mean something for me, but my parents are amazingly overprotective in many areas. An online person vouching for an online person probably wouldn't make any difference. Again, nothing personal to either of you. Just the parental control I get to deal with for another year or so.

In the spirit of not creating a new thread for this, I've decided to revive this old thread with this question: will aftermarket rearsets (woodcraft, ebay or otherwise) allow me to stretch my legs a little more?
I just completed a trip to Niagra falls (about 150km's from Toronto), which is about 1.5 hours one way. Butt cramping was a given, but on the trip home, I found that my left leg practically went numb on me. I do a lot of heavy weight lifting (deadlifts, squats, etc), and spent most of my youth involved in martial arts....so my knees aren't exactly up to par. I dont' really want to look for a larger bike at this point. Would these rear sets help at all? Anybody out there with experience on this? I'd like some opinions before I start throwing money around ebay again Oh I'm 5'11, 220lbs with a 30" inseam btw. |

I think what most of these rearsets do is move the pegs up and back a bit. I think there would be better stretch at the hips, but more contraction at the knees. I've learned from reading different posts here and there that it's much better to take rest brakes very often while riding, along with constantly shifting your weight to change the pressures on different parts of your body. I don't think rearsets will help with stretching your legs much at all though. Sorry.

To rest my backend, I sometimes will go into a full tuck, resting my elbows on my knees. The reduces the weight of my torso sitting on my butt, and also changes my overall position, allowing blood to once again flow to my back end. I end up doing that every 30 minutes or so, and staying there for a good 5 minutes. You may look a little retarded, but the change in position is good. Actually stopping is the best way, but this is just a little alternative.

On highway trips i'm almost always tucked in. I'm not a fan of having the wind beating up against my chest...and it kills my gas mileage
