No special reason for 1974. My bike just happened to be a 74, and there's a lot of good looking vehicles from '74.

The 2002tii didn't happen.
Now I'm looking at a non-running (sat for two years, battery dead, gas bad, no forseeable engine issues) 1981 beige and dark bronze Corvette. Since I'm also a Vette guy, I thought it would be appropriate. My mom has had Vettes for 30+ years, and has been in the Corvette Club of Hawaii for about that long. I've been in for about 10 years, and I'm even on the board of directors (secretary). Figured it's time to get in my own. I should be picking this one up, as long as the other two people interested don't bid it up too high (local estate sale). Just waiting on the seller to get a conservatorship so he can sign over the title. He'll also be bringing the rego and safety back up to date.

Also looked at a 76 Vette two weekends ago. It was in worse shape than I thought. The front and rear bumpers were missing, the interior needed to be completely redone, and the guy didn't have the interior pieces like he said he did, the engine was rebuilt, mild cam, new pistons, rods, chromed out, etc... Two years ago. All the chrome was pitted, it was sitting with the radiator disconnected and likely shot. No exhaust, in dire need of paint. Only good thing was that the engine WAS rebuilt, along with the trans, and it had mint rally caps. Not going for that one.
A bid date will be set real soon for the 81, the guy handling it just needs to get the back taxes paid. If the bid goes too high on it, I'll be purchasing a 68 El Camino in Butternut Yellow after the new year.

Was the second-highest bidder on the Vette @ $2300. The winning big was $3000.
The guy with the 68 El Camino was a HUGE flake and really pissed me off. Also looked at a Caballero but lost because it took too long for me to get back to him (because of the flaky 68 guy). Eventually flew to the Big Island and a 77 El Camino.

Picked it up on Monday, but I don't have a decent picture of it yet.
Stuff I plan to do immediately: Wheels on the back and tires all around - The rear fenders have been flared to 3" out. What's on there now on all four corners are 255s on 15x8s. In the rear with the flared fenders, there's still 3" of clearance to the fender. I plan on getting a set of 15x10s with either 275 or 295s. The wheels will be Corvette Rallye wheels, btw. Suspension rebuild - The suspension is absolutely shot. I can grab ahold of the bed and shake it side to side with about 2-3" of movement, I can bottom out the front suspension just by pushing down on the fender, and it just generally feels scary in corners. Getting a full front rebuild kit, graphite impregnated polyurethane something or other. Gonna use Bilstein B6 HD or KYB Gas-A-Just shocks all around with Moog springs, variable rate in the rear. Also replacing all the bushings in the rear to prevent any side-to-side movement to avoid any unwanted body/frame/suspension-to-tire contact. I'll only have about 1" of clearance to the frame/suspension with the wider wheels in the back. Fix the damn radio! - I hate hate hate driving without music. I'm hoping to get the stock radio working again, and just put a basic name-brand amp/speakers in there. Door hinge repair kit and driver side window motor - Both doors sag and make it so the window doesn't seal to the weatherstripping. The driver side window motor doesn't work, so I have to do the window by hand. That also means the window doesn't stay all the way up, compounding the weatherstripping issue. Dat rain and slightly musty interior. Also the door panel is off so it's ugly. Full interior - What's in there now is some ugly 70s big pimpin plush interior... but it looks like whoever did it didn't have enough money to spend on a nice one, so it's kinda eh. It's just generally old and tired, and needs replaced. The dash only has one crack and is fixable. I'll probably be going with a high-quality DIY kit in tan, and have my interior buddy (has the same bike as me and I'm helping him tune it) do the rest, something classy but simple looking. The seat belts will also be replaced, because they're worn out, don't retract, and the passenger side doesn't want to come out. Bodywork !!! - There's lots of small (1-3" diameter) rust spots under the paint everywhere, so it's going to help me learn some body skills. I'm not in a hurry to paint it, so it'll likely be half worn out black and half primer until I'm done with everything and satisfied with it. General maintenance and tune-up - I've been working on this the last few days. Today I'll be rebuilding the carb and hoping it's tuned right when I put it back on. If I have enough time, I'll swap out the brake fluid, coolant, and do an oil change. I have to do a compression test first though, because I don't feel like taking the new spark plugs back out after they're in.

Whats your DD cage edition
Right now for me its a 1998 olds 88. I got the car for free and so far have only put 2 new front tires and a heater core and have put 36k on this car no issues. So right now I'm loving this car.
My next DD will be a 1998 volvo s90 I paid a 100 for. The timing belt took a crap so it bent some valves. So I'm waiting for the weather to warm up as I dont have a garage. But after all the parts and my free labor ill be into it less then 1000 bucks |

Been doing lots of work on the El Camino.
FINALLY got it running right after about a month. Got a new carb (professionally rebuilt), replaced the timing chain, but the issue was the distributor was installed incorrectly.

Going to take my tax return, another $1k and hopefully finish building a bigger motor for my Civic. Going 2.2 liter and getting the block sleeved. I will easily make 300hp with little boost, and have loads of torque, going through an Integra Type R transmission with an LSD. Its all going in a sedan. That's all the power I could reasonably put to the ground on street tires, any more is pointless. 600 wouldn't be unheard of...
Nobody tell my girlfriend.

A 600 hp Civic?? Lol. A Civic is just reliable transportation from A to B to me. Besides, all that is getting put to the ground through the front wheels...

Thats why im only running enough to make about 300hp, any more than that, its not practical on the street. Im also talking about a motor that makes 200 stock, Bisimoto made over 600 on a 1.6 liter single cam engine.
And yeah, fwd isn't ideal...don't need hearing it again. I upgraded suspension and mounts and all kinds of stuff for a reason. Why im doing this on a civic? Its reasonable and easy, and I had most of the stuff, so its too late to then back now.

See why cars don't mean much to me? I would love a fun car like a BRZ or Miata or MR2 or something basic and fun like that, but meh. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get a Honda Fit because I test drove one a while back and really liked it, but it would just be a DD for me. I think the only thing I would do to it would be a bike rack on the roof. Other than that, meh; it's just a car. |

Haha. Yup, there's your problem.
I have an 08 Fit and love it. I may eventually make it into my track car. But that is a few years down the road. But I have already done a few performance mods to it. |

I just wonder how they justified this stunt while putting her in there without a helmet or gear (check out the driver) and without the 5-point harness correctly holding...things...in place. People wouldn't complain if they forced the driver to take the same risks and he might be inclined to be a bit more careful while risking her life!

But yeah, really staged. She's faking, it's dumb, that annoys me. Like all those youtube videos that are like "sexy carly rides in a 500hp corvette" and all she does is moan and scream the whole time. It's like, chill lady, we all know you just sound like a porn star... In my experience, girls either get mad at you for being a jerk in a fast car, or they laugh because it's something they've never experienced before. There's no moaning and screaming and shirts popping off ...and yes I would know, I've borrowed my grandparents' CTS-V. That's a hell of a car. |

So this is my El Camino at a cruise night. Can't tell, but it is an absolute rust bucket. 77 Classic (top of the trim line)
So I've decided to get another with much less rust (almost rust-free). Will be test driving it tomorrow and if it checks out, I'll be walking away with the title. 73 SS.

My 2005 Series I had only two oil injectors per rotor. That design has led to premature engine failure. You want the extra third oil injector of the Series II. Also, it has supposedly 50% more oil pressure at 3000 rpm than the Series I. Apex seals like oil!! |

Finally I get to bump this thread! I'm a car guy before a motorcycle guy and this is what I have wanted for the longest time and I finally purchased it yesterday. It's an 04 STI in my favorite color. It has a Seibon CWII carbon fiber hood, a Carbon Creations trunk, and a carbon fiber roof overlay. It also has aftermarket front seats, a turboback exhaust and the Cobb Stage 2 tune. I picked it up Monday morning and I am having a ton of fun with it so far, and I am glad I waited to find the right car instead of settling for something else. I'm thinking about trying to trade my hood for someone's stock hood but I have not decided yet, let me know what you guys think. Anyways on to the pictures!

Love WRXs and STIs.. except the new ones... But motorcycles are still better! Nice car though. I'd personally keep the carbon goodies but get the stock spoiler back on it, maybe with a carbon upper or something.

That's a pretty clean WRX. God I was so excited about the new WRX after seeing the concept and hearing it was going to have a separate chassis from the impreza (i.e. no longer based on the impreza), plus having a turbo FA20 that was going to produce more horsepower that the old EJ powerplant. But then I saw the new mule running on the nuburgring...why subaru...WHY. I mean the new one isn't bad but I was looking for the revolution they promised.
