SoCal Riders Let's Plan Something (LA/OC counties)
Myself and 3 other riders had a successful meetup on Feb 5th of this year. It was fun and I really want to something like that again.
So to the so cal riders out there, let's plan something. Canyons, coastal rides... something. I need to let my baby's lungs open up and breathe. |

Alright peeps... Good news on my bike...
Replaced the pads on front and rear. Rear pads were GONE!!!! Pad material almost nonexistant, and on one of the 2 pads it was grinding into the metal. Rotor slightly damaged, but still functional. My bald rear tire is also being replaced right now. Just took her into the dealership. Come midnight I'll be more than ready to take a comfortable group ride. If we're gonna do something, let's do it kinda soon. Like madman... Bored as fuhhhhhhhhh |

Did you replace the pads urself? Or is the dealer doing that as well? If the dealer is doing it how much did they steal.. I mean charge you?

I replaced them myself. I've done it on something like 7 cars already, and the bike was pretty*much the same. A little tricky, but it turned out well. I ordered internet pads, total replacement cost was 30 min in my driveway, and $22 for a full set. (front+rear)

I had them do the tire though. I'll ask how much for the pads when I pick it up in about an hour or two.
If you ever want to do them yourself then I'd be glad to help out. I've done a decent amount of work on mine. It's a pregen, but very similar. I can adapt to new things pretty easily, and I have a website or two where I can look at pull aparts and such. |

It's been a while since I've ridden the poor lil' 250. I try to at least ride her to work every once and a while. Since I've gotten the 636 the 250 does a lot of sitting.
I'll keep an eye here... it's a little tough with a wife and 3 kids, but sometimes she gives me a pass

Anything and everything, Depending on who shows up i am sure there will be enough knowledge to take an engine apart and put it back together. If there is enough notice i am in.

I wish that we could have some way of getting all the bikes to one place and leaving them there overnight. Valve adjustments are one of the complicated things that I know how to do (on my bike at least, I know the new ninjas aren't too different). We're a tad limited in what we can do because the engines will be hot.

I would LOVE to have a tech day! I need to replace both my brakes, brake fluid, and coolant and I HAVE NO CLUE HOW! All of the local shops and dealerships are out to RAPE!! (yes, I know there are DIY's but I am a hands on learner). I'll buy food and beer as compensation

Tech day jobs (including valve adjustments) are doable in a day. You just have to be willing to travel and get everything that you need there in a back pack, get there early, and work your butt off. Mike, why do you need to replace your brakes? Do you mean just the pads? Coolant flushing is easy.

Well with valve adjusts the engine has to be stone cold. If its warm then the parts may still be enlarged enough to give a false reading when you measure the gap. As for most everything else, letting it sit for a little while can cool it off enough to.work.
I can do pads, and oil easy. Haven't done a coolant flush yet, but I can figure out how. I can also clean air filters and lube cables. |

Remove the stock fuel filter and install an inline filter (stock one is an in line but its inside the hose, very small and hard to find / near impossible to check or clean without taking it out) with a clear plastic body. There's a suggestion. Clean / lube your chain. Do that every 500 miles.

I'm planning to take a trip done to SoCal in the next few weeks and wouldn't mind riding a day with you guys. It'll probably be a three day deal so a Friday or Monday ride is possible to avoid to many cagers and cops or the weekend for those who work during the week. My schedule is flexible by a day or two if need be.
I normally leave NorCal a little before sunrise and head down the coast to Santa Maria then cut across on 166, then it down hwy 33(one of my favorites) into Ojai. My destination is Simi Valley but how I get there open to change. I would have done this a few weeks ago but I'm worried about the snow and Ice at the higher elivations of hwy 33. I think this last warm spell should have done that road good last week. You guys could try meeting me at 166 & 33 then we can ride down 33 and 150 together. It's a long way out to meet me but I guarantee its worth it. Oh yeah I plan on stopping in Paso Robles on the way down to mount up some fresh rubber then continue south. |

As for valve adjusts, it may be better if I came to you. Valve adjusts are best done when the bike is cold. There is a pretty short list of tools required to the adjust them. I need to do a little research on it (youtube videos) to figure out what tools may be different and if my valve tool will work on it.
