When I was younger I would do heavy weights of 10 reps and 3 sets to bulk up. No that I am much much older I do lighter weights of 15 to 20 reps and 5 sets for muscle tone and cardio.

I’m not sure if it’s just me or if others go through the same thing. During the winter months and especially during the holidays I seem to have less energy during my workouts. I think it’s partially due to less daylight hours and partially due to extra eating and drinking during the holidays.

Yeah this one was brutal. I had to scale the C&Js anyways simply due to shoulder and bicep tendon damage I have been working through. I got all of it in, but capped at 185 and stayed there. I just can't clean any more weight then that without extreme pain around the Humerus and it has taken 8 weeks of PT just to get there - not risking it. The Pistols were HORRIBLE by the end. I too am ready for it to be over.

Eh, taking a couple months of low intensity, longer duration workouts will really help with aerobic base building. It's not a bad thing if you take a couple months in winter and focus on that. Just be sure to get back to it hard in spring when you can enjoy the sunlight again.

Back to the topic of less daylight during the winter.........
My gym, planet fitness, has tanning booths. What is everyone’s opinion on that as a substitute and of course the safety aspect? Thanks, all. |

Just say no to tanning beds. Low energy or fatigue could indicate a vitamin D deficiency, and most people are deficient. Just pop a supplement, don't do the tanning bed.

3 months so it’s been trial by fire lol. I used to do the Beachbody stuff (p90x, insanity, etc) so the HIIT type stuff with body weight and lighter weights I have been used to for awhile. The heavy weight and weight intensity is new.....and hard.

20.5 was another great example of this. Nearly everyone that I was working out with during the last open workout needed to break up their sets, I plowed through all 120 wallballs and 80 cal of row nearly non stop but I struggle with muscle ups (like getting more than 1 .... period) so I scaled and did the 40 pull ups.

First time in gym , in about a year, on friday, but as of actual " routine" been 4ish + years. Back to my high school body weight ( about 137#, gym weight was avg 210# ) just switched to night shift, and the whole shift went to on site gym. It SUCKS to hit weights hard, and only do mostly at about a quarter of what you used to do with ease. If not more. ( and STRUUUUGGGGLIIIINNNNGGG.)
Typically, for me, it was 3 sets of 10,heavy. Then 3 sets of 30 at 1/2 the heavy weight. I was really cut and toned, but with mass. Today im stick boi ish) This time around.( friday) 3 sets of ten of what I could muster. ( damn near my initial start training weights) Hurting today. But its a good burn. Can't wait till monday. I have to quit smoking. Gonna do it, and not look back. |

A good way to keep going to the gym is to get a workout partner. You get mutual encouragement and good spirited oneupmanship helps as well.

I've moved (a couple times actually) and where I live now (North of SLC, UT) is much colder and more snowy than I'm used to, so I got a velomobile for my winter commute. They do a pretty good job keeping the roads plowed around here, and the drive train is completely enclosed, so I don't worry too much about the road salt. Just on the wheels. Riding 5 miles to work on a steady uphill (311 feet). I rarely go directly home, and my shortest alternate route is usually 8-12 miles. |

There's a dealer in Plano (I think) TX with just about every model built. You go there, try them all out, then he helps you order, and goes through all the customs stuff for you.
https://www.bicycle-evolution.com/ma...-page/cycling/ Almost all velomobiles are built in the Netherlands, and the lead time is 6 months to over a year, depending on the model. The aerodynamics on this thing are amazing. On level ground, I'm 5-6 mph faster than my (recumbent) bike. Uphill is slower because it's heavy (about 70 lbs), but it absolutely flies down hill. On a downhill run, I've hit 65 mph! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7IWYp2eLrc For comparison, my recumbent tops out at 54 mph down that hill. I did a comparison with my CBR600. I entered the top of the hill at around 51 mph, which is about what I can do in the velo or bike, and let it coast. Topped out at 54 mph, same as my bike. |

Holy crap, riding the velo 5 miles through 1/2 inch of snow makes it feel more like 8 miles. Also, as much as the rear wheel was spinning, it might have been equivalent to 8 miles.
I think I could have done a donut in the parking lot if I really tried. |
