Extreme Mod Pack
So I've got my little '07 250 and for the sake of just because, I'm thinking about doing a crazy little line up of mods to see just how much power/speed I can squeeze out of it.
1: EFI Kit - as seen on other posts (just search EFI) 2: Convert to single exhaust - shed the extra weight an add a better after-market exhaust. 3: Turbocharge - Why? Because I want to. Potentially double HP in best case. 4: NOS - Again why? Because I want to. Heard lots of tech problems with putting NOS on the ninjas so this will be the last mod to go on if I decide to try all this. If this happens I will also probably have to upgrade to a more beefy clutch. 5: Flush mount turn signals(if I can find them, anybody know where I could get some?) and add extra lights to rear. Possibly add underbody lighting too. A couple extras if I have some extra cash: All custom carbon fairings, LED lights makeover. Thoughts, hints, tips, or just call me crazy. What do you think? |

Do pod filters, jet kit, and full exhaust and let us know if you want to keep going after all that. You wont get that much more power out of it. Even if you do decide to go further you'll need these to get the full effect of anything else further on

why not just get a used 600 SS? Don't get me wrong, I get the fun in modding our little babies (I have done so myself...shimming and desnorkeling, slip-on, K&N filter...not much I know ) but Turbocharge? NOS? really? Wouldn't the cost outweigh the potential gains? and there's always reliability and longevity of the engine to consider...simply not worth it in my opinion.

Hi Crazy
I like your enthusiastic approach to making a 250 Ninja unique. And believe me I am not trying to discourage you. But that turbo in the video only made 58 hp. Double the power on this engine is a little tricky, How much money do you think it will cost to install a turbo or nitrous? Do you plan on street riding or track use ,or a show bike? They are all VERY different types of bikes. |

pod filter, jet kit, 2-1 pipe, port job, bore job, high compression pistons, and cams (if you want to get into that) should net you some impressive numbers.
If you're going to put that much time and $ into the bike, do a newgen suspension/wheels/brakes/clipon conversion (get a better quality rear shock and gold valve emulators while you're at it) so you can have a better handling bike that can take some seriously sticky radial tires (aka Pirelli Diablo Rosso II's). That way you can put all that expensive extra power to good use. The stock tire/suspension combo needs some help as it is. |

No turbo for me.
I don't have that kind of money. For my extreme mods. I have CR Special carbs ,BRT R-tis ignition system,Hi compression big bore pistons, custom made dual megaphone exhaust, lots of head work and ceramic bearings in the trans. Plus a full on Wizards of Nitrous system. The nitrous system will not be ready until June. But the rest is loaded in the van and I am going to test it this weekend. |

Wow, Jiggles, that thread took me forever to read through. Valuable info though. On the subject of fitting an intercooler to a 250, forgive my ignorance about turbos and such, but is an intercooler required to run a turbo safely or could I do it without worrying about the space requirements?

You would basically be blowing hot air into your engine which is less dense and less power potential. If I were you, I'd price out your dream mods and reassess. |

I have considered a supercharger but a few problems:
1: Haven't found one that is a suitable size for the 250 2: How on earth would I drive it? And where would it go on the bike? With a turbo, I could mod the exhaust pipes on the front of the engine to allow placement of a turbo with little hassle. After reading what tanman2003 said, I think an intercooler would be a good idea to avoid a whole handfull of new problems. So now I'm racking my brains trying to figure that out. |

. The only turbo 250 ninja I know of uses a water to air intercooler. The gas tank is filled with ice water and the fuel is in a tank under the seat. search Seldom seen slim. He is a friend of mine. The guy that built the bike is also a good friend. I won't say how many thousands of dollars he has in it. But it is for sale. I broke its record with my bike.
The problem with the 250 ninja is it does not have enough breath to push the turbo. So no boost until 8000 rpm. Riding the bike, if you shift to soon and you loose the boost you have to go down three gears to spool the turbo back up. Using low compression pistons makes the problem worse. Watch that video again at the beginning . He opens the throttle the shuts it and the opens it slowly. For a super charger you can run a pully off the stator side through the side cover. Just pay a bunch for a custom cover and a pully that will work . Big money all of it. |

I was mostly joking about the supercharger, but if you did manage to get one working I bet it'd work better than a turbo. But still, the engine has to drive the supercharger before it charges it, and it's a small engine. It would be interesting to see how it works out

Sweet, photos would be great. I'm still gonna to the 2 to 1 ehaust convert just cuz I don't like the current exhaust. Also still considering the EFI kit and if I don't do that I'll get a jet kit.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone! |
