Clicking/Clacking? Identification help please.
Hey guys, so I have this odd noise coming from my bike. Its like a clacking noise. It clacks twice when taking off from a stop, the first louder than the second and it seems that the same noise appears when I release the clutch to engine brake from a speed that would have the tach read 6k or above in that given gear. So tach is above 6k, I engage the clutch then slowly release it to engine brake and the clacking noise is there. The sound doesn't seem to appear while I'm on the move but I think I heard it while going over some minor bumps on the highway.
I have a feeling its coming from the transmission. Also how many miles would it be wise to replace the clutch plates? |

Check your chain. My guess is that you've got a stretched or buggered link. On acceleration or decal...it hits that front sprocket a little off and jumps into place instead of running smooth.
Might be time for a new chain and sprockets. |

You are right. My chain is kinked and buggered. At first I thought it was that, I thought the same thing but I disregarded it after the clutch incident. I didn't think of the decel. Thanks for the second opinion.

Ill tell you this...when you change out the chain, change out the sprockets too, or it will just wreck the new chain.
If yours is a 2008-2012 model, do yourself a favor and get a impact wrench and a 27mm impact socket to get the front sprocket off. Ive actually sheared the end off a 1/2" drive breaker bar trying to get that nut off by hand. |
