Rich or Lean?
Hey everyone, I've had my bike on 3 washers for a couple months now, and it feels good, but it smells really rich. I have the snorkel pulled and a full AP exhaust.
I rode a stock 250 the other day and it feels pretty fast actually, maybe even faster than my bike!!! Maybe it's because i usually ride my bike in the lower rpm range in the city bc its so loud.. and with the quiet stock exhaust , i was more willing to bring it to it's power range . anyhow, i was wondering if anyone knows how to tell if the bike is too rich or too lean? I was contemplating taking off 1 washer, so there's only 2 washers and then seeing how hard it pulled.. what do you guys think?

What is your fuel mileage?
There are several ways to tell if your bike is rich or lean, but the most certain way has to do with you checking the plugs. If your fuel mileage is decent you are probably fine. If you are getting insanely good mileage, lean, if bad mileage, rich. Usually if you are too rich you will bog down. Don't get this confused with starving for gas if it is too lean. When it is lean you may feel it start to surge as you easily roll through low, mid and high range of the carb settings. Most likely you have everything set pretty close to right. If you feel like experimenting you probably won't hurt anything so it's worth a shot. |

Well my gas mileage is typically 46mpg or so, but on long highway trips i get about 41 mpg, probably a sign its running rich.
what do you mean by "surging"?

Sounds a tad rich.
It's kind of hard to explain, but if you slowly roll the throttle or keep it in one place you will notice the bike want to jerk forward and backwards. I'd rather be a bit rich than a bit lean. |

My fuel injected 250R average consumption which includes running at 70 + mph is never less than 60 mpg, put your finger in the exhaust and see if it comes out black.
