250/300 engine tips/advice?
So I did a bunch of searches and I know at least a couple people have put a 300 motor into a 250 (2009). The threads I read though we're a little light on details. Can any share a more in depth how to on removing the old engine and putting the new 300 motor in? I have a complete 300 sitting right next to my 250 so I should all the required parts for a full 300 if swap

Pretty much just take out the whole engine, wiring, ecu and replace it with the 300 stuff. Mounts are the same. I put the engine in first. Then proceeded with the 300 wiring. This will take the most time since you need to figure out how the wiring will go, zip tieing, etc. And finding a spot for the ecu to sit. You might have to cut the lower newgen fairing to fit the header. Also source out a fuel pump and splice that in. I got mine from ecotrons.com for 30 bucks and works perfectly. Its a straight swap just you need to wire it up and that can take time. PM me if you need any more specific details.

Also I made the 300 gauge cluster fit on my pregen. I would do the same in your case since it would be a big pain to re-pin the newgen cluster to get all the same data from the 300 cluster. 300 cluster looks better anyways and is digital

Awesome I'm sure I will be hitting you up regularly. I also hope to document the job in this thread, I guess I'm just not sure where to start lol

take the old motor out from both bikes and get ready for the swap. Take my advice and strip the bikes down completely. You will need access to every part of the bike for the wiring and taking the motor out.

Unlike @EMSRacer07 I would go the different way and start with the cable, wire and hose routing before the engine is mounted.
You can find that all described with the pictures in the Appendix-Sections of the 300 Manual. |
