Well for insuranse it's an math problem, bikes value is x. Damage is y. if y is too close to x bike is total loss. so if you damaged all your farings in a drop. it could total your bike. as far as a person is concerned its what your willing to pay vs buying a new bike, for a true total loss all I can think of is a broken frame. Anthing else can be fixed for a price.

Thanks alex I was waiting for that but wanted to answer
Sorry I wan't clear I was rushing to go out to dinner. Yea if you want to fix it yourself look on Ebay, if you go to insurance it will be a total loss mostly likely. I have herd of them totaling bikes over plastics being ruined from a drop.

What you need to is some math... how much is a frame + (and I'm not going to guessing what you need) at some point the cost efectiveness of fixing the bike vs buying a used/new one will out weigh fixing what you have.

Some states have laws that determine if they will salvage a vehicle, for example in California I think if the repair estimate is 80% of the book value they have to salvage it.
