Front Brake Switch Doesn't Light Tail Light
So I inspected my front brake switch today and I was sad to find out that the taillight does not light when the brake is applied . The bike has less than 1000 miles and it already has a problem.
Anyway, I checked the rear brake, and it lights the tail light just fine. How would I go about fixing the problem with the front brake light switch? Thanks for the help! |

Check to see if it's plugged in. Also check the connection and make sure it's not corroded either.

Everything is plugged in. I did adjust something just now and the light works. Although its intermittent. Where is the connection located? I did notice some rusting under the handle near the front brake fluid reservoir. Is that where the switch is located?

Nevermind, I found where the switch is located. It appears to be in good working order, making a clicking noise whenever I toggle it. I moved some of the wires leading from the brake to the rear of the bike and it appeared to alleviate the problem. I am afraid I may have a loose connection somewhere but I dont know where.

I have a 650R, but the design should be similar. This is a picture of the underside of my right handlebar. The arrow is pointing to the brake switch. Make sure it isn't sticking. If it moves freely and is plugged in, it may be faulty.

Ok so the problem lies at the connection that is directly beneath the front brake fluid reservoir. For whatever reason, this connection is not tight and is causing the intermittent issue. The black covering protecting the actual wiring is hard to remove, but I was able to peek inside and I noticed copper wire had a clean connection to the metal on the brake lever.
I am wondering if there is a lose connection at the L-Joint which I could not fully see because of the covering. I will ride along and see if my adjustments to the connection fixed the issue, which it has at the moment. Thanks for the help cuong! |

Yup, same design on the 250. That part moves freely. It is just the connection leading from the lever that is causing the issue.

I think my switch went bad..but I'm not sure. Is it supposed to turn the brake light off when the little plastic knobby piece is fully decompressed (brake all the way pulled in)? Anybody know?

It's the piece with the red arrow pointing at it, I don't have a pic of it from the side of the bike, but the one with the footpeg hanger off should give you an idea of where it is & how the switch works. |

nice, ill go ahead and adjust my back brake. thanks for the info and picture.
But, checking my front brake, it looks like the button isnt getting stuck it freely presses in and comes back out and clicks also but doesnt activate the light. so its either the connection, fuse, or faulty part then correct? where is the connection located for the front brake? is it under the gas tank? |

figured it out...
There is a two prong plug connected to the box with the brake light button, i pulled them off and noticed they were corroded, i squeezed a small piece of sand paper under there and scraped off the corrosion untill i saw the shine of the metal, pluged it back in and it worked. I also adjusted the back brake light sensor screw, and now I have working front and back brake lights. |
