Effect of a backpack on BP work
Following some really productive days at the track this year, I've been taking every opportunity to work on body position -- moving my head and shoulders well off to the side, etc.
I've started noticing something interesting. Carrying stuff on my back really affects this. Not in the sense of the bike behaving differently, but in the sense that it inhibits my movement more than I thought it would. I feel clumsy and a bit bound up when my pack is full. I guess this shouldn't be surprising, but it's more noticeable than I thought it would be.

I use a small A* pack or an even smaller hydro pack. For me I don't notice a difference with or without.

From time to time I have to earn my title.
Because if I were to lose it, I would no longer be Captain Obvious.

Perhaps you need something smaller and less restricting?
Hi Viz too! Seriously though I have a smallish size backpack with not too thick straps and it doesn't bother me. I have a bigger 30l backpack that can be a bit bothersome though cause it has thick straps that block my arms from moving freely.

I've been doing a lot of mountain biking lately and a good friend of mine who is considerably better than me suggested that he take my camel back next ride and that I try riding without it! I hadn't thought that it would make much of a difference but he seems to think that it does. I'll let you know what I notice next ride when I take it off.

I wore one during the endurance race I did yesterday, didn't use it much but on a hotter day it may come in handy. Not distracting at all and it fit well under my air bag vest
I struggle on a hot day on a mountain bike without it, I need water a lot more on one of those

As a total newbie, I was surprised the other day to find that carrying stuff in my backpack seemed to affect the suspension on my bike... was pretty surprising. I didn't think the backpack contents were that heavy...

Not a fan of having stuff in the backpack at all.
I keep my phone, wallet, pack of smokes, GoPro, and a few other little things in it because they don't do much for holding me back. ...but... When I stop at the store to grab something on the way home, I hate it. You just can't move on the bike the same. I usually pick up a bottle of wine for myself, a bottle of champagne for the wife, and a can of dog food. It's a total pain to ride home with that **** on my back. |

A nice dry red would pair nicely with the dog food.
