Ahh man.. Did you sell the SV on craigslist? I remember seeing an SV that looked like yours thinking "is that Jono's?"

LOVE the Street Tripple! We got to ride with some people or something before winter gets here.

That was mine! Finally sold it last night.

I'm loving it too! It's a great commuter. And I ride for fun basically every weekend if it's not raining. I got a few folks I usually ride with. And if I can wake up on time, I try to ride with some other folks that meet early on the weekends. But we should go for a ride soon!

Changed the oil today and saw metal shavings in the oil catch pan. I'm super pissed. I am going to put a few hundred miles on the bike and drain the oil again to see if there are more metal shavings. ****ing British bikes.

I now see why people buy NEW motorcycles.

Don't worry about it too much for now. Take clean oil and do a 60-second oil change to flush the system. Then do a short oil change and see how it goes. There's a good chance that the shavings are leftover from before. With the system flushed out, you'll be able to see if those shavings are new and currently being made by the engine or just leftovers from break-in or whatever.

Wishing you luck on this! Gold color or aluminum colored? Not ferrous are they?

They are aluminum colored but I forgot to run a magnet through the pan to see if it was actually aluminum. Will do that when I drain the oil again. The shavings were small but big enough to feel between my fingers. I'm hoping it's just stuff from engine break-in/transmission breaking in.

Sucks I didn't check the old oil until after I filled the bike up with expensive Castrol Oil. Hate pouring it out so soon.

I wouldn't be too worried about it if I was you. Especially if the shavings were that small. Hopefully the PO just never cleaned the screen and they were just left over from break in. Believe me, I've seen worse in some of my engines and they all still run.

I'd just make sure to keep an eye on it. Put some cheap oil in and change it again in a few hundred miles to see what it looks like.

I remember seeing some color in the drain pan when I did the oil on my Street R at 900 miles. Next oil change was something like 3500 IIRC and I didn't see anything in the drain pan.

I don't remember how many miles yours has on it.

Oh, Rotella t6 is the oil I'm using.

Yeah I haven't drained it yet. It's been running great. I'm going to change the oil again soon to see how it's looking. Rode the bike down to Birmingham, Alabama for Barber Vintage Fest last weekend and the bike did great. I was impressed with how comfortable it was.

if you're really curious about what's going on in your oil, get a free kit from these folks:

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

you pay for them to do the analysis. I got it done when I blew the turbo on my LGT, and thus far it's point to a healthy recuperation...

That lab thing is cool but I don't rally understand.

If he can see metal in his oil there is definitely metal in the oil. In fact if you can't see metal in the oil there's still metal in the oil on a microscopic level.

I imagine their analysis will tell Jono that there is metal in the oil.
