General maintenance. Check your bolts!
Just thought I'd throw this up here.
Check all your fasteners, guys! I know it sounds remedial but so far I've had my shifter fall off from the bolt falling out and one of my rearset bolts falling out. Also, the bodywork fasteners tend to loosen up a little. None of them fell out on me but I checked them recently and a few of them didn't have as much torque as I remember putting on them. I recommend you go over your bolts with your wrenches every so often. Lucky for me when my shifter fell off, I pulled off the freeway and there was a bike shop not half a mile from there that had another 250 there(1st gen) and they let me have the bolt and barrel assembly off that one to get me home. And when my rearset bolt came out, luckily the rear passenger peg bracket bolts are the same so I just took one from there. So just as a reminder, break out the wrenches and torque away. |

Very good advice... this is one high revving, buzzy little bike. I can imagine all kinds of dancing nuts and bolts working their way loose as the miles accumulate.
I had a rear brake light switch that went out of adjustment and no matter how much I stepped on the rear brake pedal, the tail light wouldn't go on. A few turns of the adjuster by hand and the problem was solved. Vex suggested checking your exhaust flange bolts if you have installed an after market exhaust. He found they had worked themselves loose since he installed his AreaP. Thanks for the reminder. |

Good post Kuro,
Good bike maintenance is not just changing the oil and checking tire pressures. |

Loctite Blue is a good thing to use. Rode a Sportster years ago that had a ravenous appetite for the stuff, also drank a lot of oil.
