Installed 16t front sprocket on my street-bike being used as occasional commuter to S.F. Should be result in less hectic engine and give a quieter smoother ride. We'll see tomorrow...

Sold it and all its current accessories! Bye bye, baby ninja. New owner is a kid and his dad. Seems excited. I'm glad it went to someone new so the dream can be alive.

PS: I'll have some more stuff for sale soon. A Muzzy pipe, some rocker arms, some intake runners, a Kawi valve tool, and a race suit. PM me if you're interested.

Nope. No plans for another motorized 2-wheeler in the near future. Because racecar. ...and bicycles

I put a block heater on my car since it lives outside now and it's been colder than snot lately! The socket is very subtle and fits down in my bumper trim nicely.

Yepp... for real. I've not ridden it much at all the last 2 seasons. It's just not my thing lately. Maybe some day again! I'll keep the endorsement on my license, but I think I'm enjoying experimenting with a fun car for a bit. Miata's have a similar knowledge base to the ninjette.

I love Miatas. I rented one in L.A. once and it rained the entire time I had it. I was dieing to get it on some dry, twisty roads and stretch it out. Well, if you gotta trade two for four you made a great choice!

I thought longingly about my little Ninjette today. Raining, mudslides, closed roads.... so she stayed in the garage. It looks like it will be cheaper to combine husband's and my insurance policies now, though. We had our bikes separated because it was going to be expensive to insure new-rider-me on his bigger more expensive bikes. But now with two years of riding experience... not so bad.

Jetting is close for now, but will need some electrical help to get it fine tuned.
Newgen engine, 2mm bore and high compression pistons, opened up intake on pregen airbox, new WIX spongey filter.
38 idle jets,
2.5 turns idle screw
110 main jet
3 washers on the needles.

Only problem is the pregen spark plug boots don't seem to play nice with the newgen head. #2 cylinder is randomly not firing. It's okay above 5,000 rpm, but under that it dies. And this engine really doesn't like starting on one spark... Then I can reach down under the tank, click the boot into place on the plug, and she roars back to life easy as pie.

@Ghostt, I remember you had a write up somewhere for taking apart/cleaning the spark plug boots and ignition coils. Think I could frankenstein a newgen plug boot onto a pregen coil? I like the mounting I have now but I want the boots to play nice with the newgen head. Got a link handy for that cleaning/PM DIY you put together, pretty please?

No problem, but I'd go with the CoPs conversation as I've done. They offer hotter spark, which allows you to open the spark plug gap, less things to wrong too.

Quote:
Even bad plugs should do something, unless they are totally shot.

Did you renew the HT leads, and disassemble the caps?

Make sure you disassemble the caps, and clean them, and yes the caps get cruddy.

Here my write-up,

Quote:
Short explanation: The inside of the hard plastic caps accumulate crud the can short out the spark. This can cause rough running or failure to start. Every time you do any work on the bike: remove them disassemble and clean them and renew the wires or at least the connections.

The long Explanation, Warning engineering information can cause Drowsiness.
The ancient cylinder design of the engine dictates that the spark emanate form the center of the combustion chamber. In order to get it there, the plugs had to be located down deep in a well between the cams. This well is a perfect place for dirt and moisture to accumulate. Then because there is no cooling water at this point the metal around the plug runs very hot. Surround this with the large amount of cool metal and you have a recipe for condensation. Now K did drill a drain hole between the fins to help (a little) but it often gets plugged up.

The moisture boils off the base of the plug and the vapor condenses on the cool plastic cap and the plug insulator. This moisture forms a easier path for the electrons to ground than jumping the gap at the plug to make a spark. Misfire.
This issue is right up there with Pilot jets as a cause of trouble.
Here's some pictures that might be helpful. I took these when I replaced the wires themselves, as it was a good time for a write-up, and the wires were OEM from 1998.

Wires are just 7mm copper core, with clear silicone jacket

IMPORTANT NOTICE: make sure to use a proper screwdriver, make sure it fits, as the parts are made of brass inside the spark plug caps

Important notice: the wire must be screwed on the spark plug cap, note the screw like object inside the spark plug cap?

Important notice: be careful to not loose the ferrules on the HT leads, these keep the wire from falling out of the coil. Below is an example of ferrules on a pressure fitting, looks familiar?

There's the write-up on the caps

Thanks for getting back with me. Too late though. Bike sold a while ago. The pregen coils work great with newgen leads and boots.

Oil Change

2007 model. Took it out of winter storage, didn't even have it on the battery tender. It started right up. (Bought it in September)

Let it warm up for a few minutes and changed the oil & filter.

Next up:
1. Replace bolt & nut for center stand, upon inspection I found the nut missing!
2. New tires (Kenda k671s) on front & back, new chain, & sprockets
3. Replace fork springs & oil
4. Replace rear shock
5. Ride

Changed the fork oil, raised the fork level in the triple, installed preload adjusters, adjust preload to offset the fork adjustment.

Did a little fork maintenance. Replaced the fork oil, and dropped in new springs and spacers.

Next: new rear shock, replace sprockets & chain, new tires...

Bent the brackets holding the Two Brothers mufflers so the cans didn't hit the swing arm and cleaned off the big blob of JB weld the previous owner used to seal the exhaust instead of expanding the pipe to fit. I also pulled the half plugged screens from the outlets.
Then I took it out for a good hard ride!

"screens from the outlets"? Are you saying the Two Brothers mufflers have spark arrestors on them?

Detoxed cooling system

I removed the Dex-Cool antifreeze, flushed the system with Prestone radiator cleaner and water, flushed it again with distilled water and filled-up with Zerex G-05. Only about 12 months with the Dex-Cool. I can sleep well again.

The ones on my bike did....
One side had quite a bit of carbon in the screen. Probably from before I went through the carbs.

Ride your Ninja on fire roads a-lot do you? More good reasons to remove those "plugs" than keep them.

Thanks, now I've seen everything. Must be in compliance with a California regulation of some sort.

Got it registered and insured, a tail light and license plate bracket mounted then took it for a ride. Every time I hop back on one of these bikes they put a smile on my face. He has a new front tire here and the rear tire is on it's way. Eventually it will be a scrambler sort of thing. We'll see how it turns out.

I dropped a 4" wire inside the exhaust pipe.

I was lubing the chain when my 3yo son grabbed the chain lube can lid and threw it inside the pipe. Look dad! I put it inside! he said. all happy. Damn!

I made a wire hook to pull it out. I got the plastic lid out but I dropped the wire.
Then I grabbed my telescopic magnet to pull out the wire, but didn't notice the magnet had caught a small washer. Yes, you guessed it. The washer ended up inside the pipe as well. Both things seem to be way down there now and I can't take them out.

I guess I'll have to take the slip on apart and try from there.

When I was about 3 or 4 years old I imitated everything my dad did. My father was always tinkering with a boat or automobile. One day he was working on his inboard speed boat and I wanted to help him, so I picked-up a wrench of some sort and smashed all the beautiful domed glass out of all five Stewart Warner dashboard gauges. My father had Stewart Warner rebuild and repair all the instruments. Myself? I would have had barbecued 4 year old for dinner.

Oh how I’ve missed some of you. Nice to hear a lot of you are still around! Hope everyone has a safe riding season. It has been a horrifically LONG winter in Illinois. Now it’s nothing but sunny and 70. Perfect riding weather and when I’m not on my bike I’m dreaming or thinking about it lol. Lucy is doing great. She started right up after storing her all winter. I sold my 2001 problem child but after all the work I did to her I’m sure she will be great for her new owners. I just looked at the 2001 and it gave off bad vibes so nice that I don’t have that anymore. Now it’s just me and my good ol’ 2006 that I picked up last summer for a steal at $700. She (Lucy) has been nothing but great to me. I do have some rust on her handle bars near the choke I need to attend to but other than that she’s rockin and rollin and lookin good while doing it. I miss you all, glad to see some familiar screen names. You guys were great last year when I was going through all the drama with my ‘01 which ended up being a holed piston.
Ride on brothers and sisters I know once the temp gets to about 50 this morning I’ll be taking off. And the best part is, I have no idea where I’m going

Too all concerned, AJ is really a black bear and has been in hibernation since November 2017. She comes out of her den when the temperature reaches 60 degrees Fahrenheit Hope you had a great hibernation AJ. Cup of coffee?
