What oil filter to order that gets a new O ring?
Had some issues last few oil changes, K&n oil filter doesn't come with an O-ring. Wix filter O ring is too large. Been using the same O ring for 2 oil changes no issues, but this oil change Id like to purchase everything fresh.
Can you recommend a filter that's coming with the proper O rings?

OEM....
Not a Ninjette cartridge-style filter, but I finally had an experience with K&N that's made me swear off of their oil filters forever. Both my bikes have spin-on filters, and I've been using K&N because they come with a handy, pre-drilled nut on the end of the can. Easy removal, easy to safety wire for the track. This year's street bike oil change nearly defeated me. The nut rounded off instantly, and using my go-to oil filter wrench (the Vise-Grip style) required me to essentially crush the can before I could apply enough torque to remove the thing. I was seriously concerned that it'd just rip right off, leaving the base still on the engine. In other words, the metal is so crappy that it won't stand up to even minor force. Went to the local dealers and discovered that OEM is in fact comparably priced. I'm done. OEM forever.

Can't say I recall any issues with the o-rings with WIX/NAPA filters.
We used them for years when we had the 250s. |

The K&N I used last spring came with an o ring, did they stop including them?

Fram toughguard ch6012 comes with O-rings and are available at autozone most of the time. But the K&N 401's I have also came with O-Rings. I wonder what's up with the ones you got that didn't include them.

Fram's quality has reportedly gone down significantly in the last few years. I'd recommend OEM or WIX instead. NAPA filters are made by WIX.

I dont trust fram has been the lowest filtration rate in most comparisons.
Crushing filters isn't a real indication of filter quality, I crush them on vehicles quite often. My KN filter did not come with O rings, was a bummer. Oem is so far away, dealership is 45 min drive + south Florida traffic, f dat Ill try another K&N and order the HF401 give em a try, thanks all! Ill check OEM online but they are typically like 14 bucks, anyone get them cheaper? Link if so thanks

Fleabay is nice to those who buy in bulk. Oil filters are a smart thing to buy in bulk, anyway.

HF 401 is the best oil filter with lowest price. It comes with two O-rings, one large and one small. I never use the small one.
I usually change oil and filter every 5000 miles. My 08 ninja got 68k miles now. |

Hey K&N screwed the pooch again. The filter came with 2 large O rings and neither of them felt correct in the housing. A skinny one and a fat one, the fatter one was just too large to fit into the cartridge housing, didn't seat in and feel right and a lot of slack if you ran the entire circle some bulged out.
The Hiflo401 came with an O ring that worked perfectly. You felt the O ring "seat" into the cartridge housing and no extra on the outskirts. hiflo looks comparable to the K&N in quality, feel and weight. Its even the same color.

WIX filters come with both the large and small O-rings that work fine.
