I'm not dropping a 50% deposit to a foreign company with vaporware.

If we're doing skinny little bikes, I'm gonna say Sachs Madass 125. With some cheap suspension upgrades they are a hoot at the kart track. Kinda hard to find.

That's what I want for Christmas - a $6,000.00 motor scooter! A great pit bike for the Porsche 917.

I'm looking for something like this to go with my Derbi GPR -

Aprilia RS 50. There are a ton of hop-ups available for these - big bore, stroker cranks, carbs, pipes.

These guys from the SF area are way into it -

The zero S is 150 lbs more and a top end 30mph faster so I do think the range is doable. That being said I will wait until after they are making delivery or maybe after I get my skully helmet.

There is a rumor floating around that about 2030 all cars and bikes will be electric. I'm wondering where all this electricity is going to be coming from? I think I'll wait until 2031 and get the first nuclear motorcycle. It should be fast and able to go for the rest of my lifetime on a single charge. They are saying it will be able to use roads, go under water, in the air (up to 3.7 miles high), be super quite, and have a half life warranty.

If only this comes with pedaling option for regen and regen braking:

UBCO 2x2 Bike
139lbs
30mph top speed
75mi range

I like everything about it, but the top speed. 30 mph would be dangerous around here.

I admit to speed-reading the article, but the beginning indicated it was a pledge, not an actual law.

I agree with those predictions. Actually, I think the rest of the world (those polluters) should not be allowed to even have anything but public transportation or bicycles for travel. Even horses, donkeys ,camels, oxen, and elephants pollute when they leave trails of **** (can you say **** on here? If not, I apologize for saying ****.) so they should be excluded for travel purposes. I mean where do these people think they have to go anyway? America (as in North America, between Canada and Mexico) should be the only country to have petrol vehicles owned by private citizens. Even in America (as in North America, between Canada and Mexico) government workers (and politicians who don't actually work) should have to take (and support) public transportation.

Well, we don't all live at the North Pole and run sled dogs. Well, I could put wheels on a sled . . . but I couldn't afford the Vet. bills and dog food.

At some points in the article they call it a ban, others refer to a pledge, then at other points it talks about a proposal and the final rules to be published later and mixed in with that they are talking about local council/city rules with Clean Air Zones vs country wide rules.

So without actually seeing the text of the law I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to me like the goal is to end internal combustion engines by 2040. Which is probably doable. But I'm just wondering how they are going to generate and distribute all the electric power.

I just did some searching and reading. Looks like it would require about a 20%-30% increase in power generation capability to replace all gasoline powered passenger cars in the US with electric powered ones.

That's a pretty big undertaking in the next 12 years. The environmental impact statements would take that long to write. and they would have to increase the distribution network.

The government can "want" electric vehicles and make laws saying car makers must change, but they can't increase availability of cobalt and lithium.

All they are doing is making laws now that will be removed later when reality sets in. There's a reason why a good electric bike costs double what the gas equivalent costs.

There have been no breakthroughs in battery technology, after 20 years of trying. We are still tied to the same technology created in the 70's. Some of these battery companies are saying "we're close to a breakthrough" which is marketing speak for "we are running out of money, please give us more."

I remember reading that if everyone on one average city block all bought electric cars for their daily commute you would be blowing electric company transformers all over the nearby power grid.

While it looks cool, a 690 based KTM will never make a good adventure tourer. The motors are too high strung, and on average need a full top end rebuild after about 25K miles. Less if ridden hard. That won't go over well with the ADV crowd.

To make that bike viable for distances, they would have to seriously detune it. A move like that doesn't seem to be KTM's style.

The Africa Twin is a bike more suitable to high miles. I wouldn't mind having one. In fact, I got my eye on craigslist for a used one.

You're assuming that I want an ADV tourer.. or that I want to be one like the crowd...

BTW, the new 790 is a twin, not a thumper like 690... the one pictured is a Rallye bike.. no where near a ADV Tourer.

Well it says adventure on the side. Maybe I need to look that one up. I thought it might be a stroked 690. I had a 690. Fire breathing monster that needed maintenance all the time. That said, I still loved it for what it was.

How did you like the cost of replacement parts? My neighbor had a KTM and I remember the parts prices were rediculous. Nice bike though.

Did you guys see the article in the new Cycle World about the now-legal older 2 strokes? There's a new law that allows non-us bikes over 25 years old to be brought in from other countries and registered in the US under a collector clause. There had a comparison of 1991 2 stroke v twins. It was drool worthy. There's a company that brings them in and does all the registration footwork and keep a supply of spare parts, Moto2 Imports.

It was drool worthy. There's a company that brings them in and does all the registration footwork and keep a supply of spare parts, Moto2 Imports.

Top of my list for sure.

The article is quoted here - http://www.moto2imports.com/testimonials/

Plan on dropping $10,000 for any of the really cool stuff.

Obviously not a good choice for a guy who can only own one bike, but for the right person $10K isn't too bad for a truly special and unique bike. A guy who is older and financially secure just might want to cash out one of my good performing stocks and pick one up.
