I'll take pictures when I figure it out. Got a bit to go still before I'm there but pieces coming in here and there, so posting them up so not to lose track of them later on.

I'm not sure if you know about this site, or if it's too late. All Balls has a fork conversion site, where you can order the bearing kits that you need for a swap.
https://www.allballsracing.com/index.php/forkconversion This is what I found, for the YZF750 front end. Yamaha YZF750 1994 25 48 13 99-3509-5 30 52 16 99-3521-5

Front end is essentially together now. I'm learning powder coating for the brackets, spacers and triple trees for the bike. Pictures of the top triple tree which came out pretty decent.

So previously mentioned machining a spanner nut for this Yamaha front end so the triple tree's would mount on the Kawi neck. Picture are of the YZF75RR triple tree after I took the front end apart and the close up of a spanner nut that was machined down to make a collar. This will go down over the timken bearing and be like a spacer against the stem itself. This will allow me to use the front end with the original yamaha without having to swap the stem out as I originally had envisioned. I also added a couple pictures of the bottom triple that I bead blasted and then powdered coated with my new equipment and learning. Should be powder coating the front wheel between things this week with the yellowish orange.

Thanks, it was in much better condition than I expected upon it's arrival. There are no cracks anywhere. A little rash on one top corner where the side and top shapes come together and then a couple scratches. I need a good tank now and I can have reasonable pieces to clean up, patch and paint down the road.

Redid the powdercoat on my upper triple tree and then took the plunge on the front wheel. Hopefully I can then put together the entire front end at last. Getting closer!!!

Got a gas tank! Spent more than I intended for it but the dings are minimal and will be easily covered when paint job time comes.

So latest portion of this project is I have the 08 GSXR 600 shock installed. I made some bushing like washers to center them in the stock mounting wholes so the bolt would be centered and secure. I had already cut out most of the air box other than battery box portion so wasn't a big deal to cut out a portion of the fender that went up to the old shock mount. That allowed the reservoir room under the battery. It just does touch the plastic but not in a restrictive way to be concerned. I also now have the YZF front end installed with timken bearings. Got some measurements figured out once in place with the fairing and determined a 3" riser set of clip ons is required. Hurt my feelings and pocketbook since I don't have to machine it myself but ordered some Driven brand ones for delivery Thursday. Once those arrive I can put the switch controls and throttle on the clip ons appropriately. Now it's time to start working on the rear wheel install to match the front. Get all the spacers, brakes and replace the shift shaft seal so I can get some test riding in. Also looking at rearset options again but don't have a lot of time. Goal is to have hear ironed out enough for a trackday on March 4th.

Got the rear wheel set up. Had to make the spacers throughout for the Hurricane 600 wheel to fit in. Turned down the sprocket carrier to bring in line for the chain. Got the brake rotor and caliper pretty well lined up in my head. Going to have a floating bracket for the caliper as opposed to being a hard set piece with the spacer.

So got a major update or pics to share. Front end, rear shock, and all the wheels, brakes, levers etc are in place and ready to roll. I have a water leak to tend to but once that's remedied, it's test ride time!

So got to ride this guy some this past weekend. Had some tweaks to iron out, like tightening up bolts that I hadn't during fabrication etc. LOL Anyhow, handled amazingly well. So very happy with how this project has been going and how much it has come together thus far. Working on gauges now. Got bracket made and mounted but have to powder coat it still. Most of the primary functions are in place and working with tach, highbeam, turn signals doing their thing. Working out the speedo pick up and magnets now but going well.
Gauges on their mount on the adapted front end below. |
