Race Tyres 2019
Going to start new thread for new year...
Not sure, unless they've changed their formulae, they've got tough competition. Talked to couple of MotoAmerica Jr. Cup guys while at Sears Point and they really like Q3+. Going to use those this next season. |

Why not get some extra wheels and try them all?
Wish we could get D211 GPA/Ntecs in Ninjette sizes. Used those since D207 generation on my CBR600RR for trackdays and they're pretty amazing |

Good idea, I'm replacing mine soon. I'll be looking for something that works when it's wet out as well.

R 11 for the win. My personal lap best was set with them and 4 seconds faster than with alphas.

I'm not sure the Q4 is available in small-bike sizes, is it?
Any thoughts on how much better the R11 is compared to the S-20 Evo? I remember a video review where Ari Henning really like the Evo. And I wonder what they're like compared to the Supercorsa SP? |

The R11 makes the S20 Evo feel like the sport touring tire it is. I like the S20EVO, and mount a cut set for rain races.

From talking with Bridgestone rep at track, they said R11 was developed as race-tyre first. Then they added some tread to comply with DOT for those classes requiring DOT-approved tyres.
Info I'm looking for is comparative data between different tyres with: same rider, same track, same day. Even same rider on different days will result in additional variables. For example for S20 review with Dave Moss (I can't find link now), he mentioned rider using them got 2:11 at Thunderhill East; which is really good for street tyre. But we don't know what kind of rider that was. In comparison, when Dave was racing 250-Superbike, he got 2:01 on Pirelli slicks. Another data point: Marc Edwards on his 300WSS bike got 2:02 on Q3+ spec tyres. Still looking for some info R11 times. |

I don't have back to back, new vs. new, times, but I went about 1.4s under my previous PB on our 1.6mile track. I have gone from S20EVO to RS10 and noticed minimal difference, but the R11 is awesome!

S20 EVO I think... RS10 is the same times and on my Durometer they are the same compound. I have the numbers somewhere.

Durometer is not directly related to grip either. Generally the more race-oriented a tire is, the narrower the temperature range at which you get the optimal grip. Of course tires get softer with increased temperature, but that doesn't mean a softer has more grip than one that isn't as soft. Try thinking about it this way: If softness is the ultimate factor in providing maximum grip then we aren't going to get any softer than rubber that is so hot that it melts. As far as I know melted rubber has very little grip. To sum it up: Don't get hung up on measuring durometer as an indicator of grip. |

Perhaps you can combine durometer reading at operating temps. Most tyres are best between 185-205F.

R11 vs. Supercorsa SPv2
From what I can gather from various comparison reviews and videos.
1. Supercorsa about 1-1.5s faster than Q3 2. which makes Q3+ about same as Supercorsa? 3. Which makes R11 about 1-1.5s faster than Q3+ and Supercorsa? |

None of them are bad tires, but you're not comparing the right Supercorsa tire. The Supercorsa SP is a more street oriented tire than the Supercorsa SC. The Supercorsa SC is the real race tire and I promise you it'll smoke the Q3+. The right comparison for real race tires is between the Supercorsa SC and the R11. The rest of the tires have more of a compromise for street riding. Not that the Q3+ is a bad tire, if the competition isn't that high, then it can be a very effective long lasting tire. But if you are in a really competitive environment you're handicapping yourself with a tire like the Q3+. You'll have to work harder and come closer to the limits of the tire to get the same lap times than with the Supercorsa SC or R11. |

I ran Dunlop Alpha 14's on my ZXR250C 4 cylinder. They do pretty well for not being slicks. Shots were after a trackday at Wakefield Park in Goulburn, Australia. Rode 2hrs there and 2hrs back after.
Sizes are 110/70/17 and 140/60/18. 26psi hot on the track, 29psi for road (standard pressures) ![]() ![]() |

^^ I can't imagine they would work any better than any other DOT race tire in the wet ... poorly. Now just very minimal dampness with no actual standing water? Could be a different story.

We were track riding in the rain I was on RS10's, CBReater was on SC (not sure which ones I think they are 1's), and Rubber side down was on R11's. I was the fastest (or dumbest) until I went down on the brakes, it looked like Travis (on R11) could slowly reel Corey (on SC) in after falling back a bit. So hard to compare in the wet, both riders are faster than me in the dry, maybe the RS10 is faster because of a higher silica content for a little better stick in the rain or maybe I'm just more comfortable with the bike sliding around a little.

Yeah, I think rider is much bigger variable in rain than tyres. My street BT45s are faster in rain than any DOT track tyre. Best would be dedicated rain tyre with bubble-gum compound.

Saw Michelin vendor for first time at Sears Point Sonoma AFM race last year. Wish they'd come out to more trackdays. Seems like people go through more tyres there than races.

Got a set of R11s mounted up for last weekend's races. Weather did not play nice and I didn't get alot of dry track time on them. Overall they seem good with the small amount of time I had on them and at a less than stellar pace but will have to wait for a dry day to really see. OD on the front is taller than the SC1 and the rear is shorter than the DRII so may need to tweak the geometry a bit to get the setup back.
