I don’t have a picture before I tore it down, somehow managed to delete most of the pics on my phone by accident. Here are a few that show about how it looks now.
It’s a 1946 model Ford 2N. Has a flathead four cylinder engine with around 120ci, and about 23 hp. It has a spec of 7:1 compression ratio. It was the first tractor to offer the three point hitch system, which is the industry standard today. The N series tractor was revolutionary at the time. Selling for less than $600 it made it affordable for a small farmer to mechanize and lower his production costs. It was said at the time a farmer used about 65% of his harvest to feed his draft animals used for farm work. I’ll work it, it’s going to tend my garden, cut my grass and do light bush hogging, I wanted to do a refurbish to repair what needs fixing and clean it up and paint it while it’s apart. I’ll be attending the local antique tractor pulls, and pulling floats in the local parades as well. I am not making a show piece, rather a clean example. |

installed the cams and head gasket this weekend. quick ride around town with a blank map to try and get the fueling rich enough to be safe for a longer ride to start building a map. even lean, this thing rips! climbs the rear tire in second gear to the point i had to back off the throttle a hair to keep it from looping.
starting compression was 205psi right cyl and 209 left cyl. after the thin head gasket it bumped to 210 psi right cyl and 212 psi left bank. got the cams shimmed up nice and uniform. i have been very pleased with how this engine is responding to bolt on parts. even with a stock head it is running much better with the work i have done. i'll try to get a few rides in this week to build some of the map, then a longer ride Saturday. we have an extra day this year due to leap year, and i have to work. cannot complain as i maybe work two Saturdays a year. you will see the jumper cables, when i ran the compression testing, i jumped battery power to the starter to prevent having to cycle the key on and then log faults with sensors unplugged. and my helper was caught taking a break. good help can be hard to find. |
